If this was the "Kovalchuk signed!" thread, it would already be 15 pages long.

I agree that it is a little deceiving though, and it's about a player we don't care about who's no longer on our team.

Pretty much. He started off really well, but he was pretty much invisible in the second half of the season and the playoffs. Youth will be served in his place!

I'm going keep it in honor of Nieds' stupid hooking penalties, floating and "grinding". Let's not forget his "I don't give a ****"-celebrations when the team scored and his inspiring hustle.

May we always remember.

You don’t get it do you……..It is not about Rob, it is about the pattern of the Devils organization misusing players over the last few years.

People used to marvel how Lou could take other teams garbage and make them into productive players. It wasn’t all that complicated, they saw one good quality in a player and gave them a very specific narrowly defined role that fit their best attributes.

The devils used to be able to do that because they always had a well put together team that was balanced from top to bottom under Lou. But now we have a team full of players who are playing stop gap roles.

It is always better to have a lesser quality player in a proper role for their skill set and experience than a more “skilled” player playing out of their skill set to accommodate for a gap. Always.

If you want to know how I come to opinions on the team and players this is it in a nutshell.

When I talk negative about Kovalchuk it is not Kovalchuk per se, it is evaluation of his skill set and how it fits in with the team. Does a player create a more balanced team, does his presence create a synergy? Or does the player throw other players out of place? A balanced well put together team will outperform skill alone. Add Skill and Balance and there is your recipe for championships.

I remember Duck fans came and told us that he would take horrible penalties at bad times. Sure enough, that's what he did in the playoffs (at least once that I can think of. I think 2x)

He was alright with us. I'd rather Dean-o instead of him.

What did anyone expect out of a guy who was signed at the end of training camp?

I just can't picture him playing into the style of hockey Buffalo plays, but I guess we'll see.
