Gomez (-10) and Gionta (-6) against Atlantic division

I was watching the stats and found something weird.
Regular season

Gomez is -10 against Atlantic division
team GP pts +/-
NJD 4 3 -2
PIT 3 3 -4
PHI 4 1 -3
NYR 4 4 0
NYI 4 2 -1

North East +2
South East +8

while
Gionta is -6
NJD 3 1 -2
PIT 2 4 -2
PHI 3 1 -2
NYR 4 4 +2
NYI 3 1 -2

North East -1
South East +7

Cammalleri
Atlantic +3
North East -2
South East +1

Plekanec
Atlantic +3
North East -7
South East +4

Im trying to understand how is it possible.

im not complaining or anything.
i just wanted to know if there is maybe an explanation.

i thought that gomez and gionta would be good against that division.. because they played alot of games (NJD and NYR)

Can you honestly put a relation between those two? It just happens I guess, and there are other team-mates on the line who haven't.. thus that could also explain the fact.

What are MAB's numbers =-o

So Gill should be putting up amazing numbers against the NE division since he's played for Boston and Toronto?

Didn't the Habs lose 3 or 4 games against the Devils?

@Bud2790

Seriously, I love all the ''cool'' responses that everyone has for this poster. How hard was it to just say that the stats didn't indicate much and that so many different factors had to be considered.

No instead we get those smart responses

Just curious, are you studying math, physics or engineering? It seems like a very random thing to correlate. I think it's interesting, but then it would also be interesting to expand this thought to the rest of the players that are part of our roster.

Then also note how long they've played in respective devisions. Though I think that it may be pure coincidence, but an interesting study none the less.

might have something to do with playing in a couple of blowouts against the Pens and one against the Rangers. Just a hunch though.

Haha! That is why I love stats... you can use them to prove everything (and their counter-argument)!

Edit: And I love our board for still being active in July, even with funny threads. I prefer that to ghost boards (Florida anyone?)
Edit #2: Actually, the Panthers' board is kinda active, too. Sunrise 1 - Phoenix 0

i'm studying software engineering. I thought that could be the division who is strong but the habs have almost the same stats between each division

vs ATL vs NE vs SE
10-8-2 11-9-4 11-7-2
22pts 26pts 24pts

Im trying to see if there is a relation between the player and the division he's playing.
