Backyard Ice Rinks

I know this is really early for this considering it is still July but I was thinking of slowly putting together some supplies to build one. This will be the first time I have attempted this so I am anxious to see how it turns out.

For those who have made their own rinks before, what kind of liner do you use? I want something that will not kill the grass over winter.

What other supplies is needed? I am hoping for 2 ft boards along the sides and maybe 4-5 ft on the ends. I have also heard of people using PVC or wood over their liner. Which is best?

I am looking to build this rink as cheap as possible though so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

How big a rink? How level is the area? (how level, not how flat, highest to lowest point, measure, don't guess)

This will effect everything you are advised to do.
