I spent all of last year holding my breath any time someone went near Gabby, I can do without having to worry about another player who is known to be injury prone, thanks but no thanks! Not at the 5 mil. mark. I would have liked to have seen Z back year as a secondary scoring role.

Folks, until the playoffs last year, the Flyers would have begged any team to take Gagne off their hands. Don't let a decent playoff run cloud your judgement. He is not worth our time at 5 million a year.

If he were put on waivers, I dont think he makes it past the Islanders. One year left on his deal and the Islanders have to spend another 8 million dollars to get to the floor. But I would make a claim if he is put on waivers. Waive Redden and there is enough cap space. A one year deal gives our youth another year to develop.

If we had a time machine we could get the 05/06 Gagne and the 05/06 Jagr.

I wonder if he makes it past the Oilers even. I would say the Leafs too, but they are tight, tight up against the cap. But certainly the Isles would jump on Gagne. I think the waiver threat is posturing though. Maybe it forces the Islanders' hand... they would love to grab him off waivers but if they fear someone under them will claim him first, maybe they make a trade. The Blues have tons of cap space, though it is for the purposes of a sale. However, JD who is familiar with Gagne could justify the move since he is UFA at the end of the year. Maloney knows Gagne too and that would be a good move for the Coyotes.

Basically, we're not getting him on waivers and with all the potential trades, we are not getting a discount from a division rival.

NYR Reach out to Philly about Gagne

COURIER-POST ONLINE/PHILLY.COM: report the Philadelphia Flyers re-signing of Dan Carcillo means the club will have to shed a veteran salary, quite possibly Simon Gagne, who's been frequently mentioned in the rumor mill of late. The Toronto Maple Leafs, LA Kings and New York Rangers are believed to have contacted the Flyers to express interest in Gagne, and it's possible a trade could depend on the status of UFA forward Ilya Kovalchuk, who continues to negotiate with the Kings and Devils.

Yes, this is what we need! A 5M$ left winger while our #1 center is a waiver pickup.

Demitra JUST said he was looking at signing with the Rangers.

Still, I cant imagine who they plan on trading to get this done. It'd have to be Rozsival and then we're back to square one with a terrible defense.

After consideration, If he comes here, and its a major if, it must mean Redden is being waived, which is a cause ofor great celebration.

Ugh more broken parts. Depends on the deal. Its going to be very hard to accommodate his salary. He wouldnt look bad on a line with Gaborik.

Some of these people are delusional. There is no way Gagne is available to the Rangers on waivers. Someone in line before us will obviously claim him. This is a pipe dream at best. It won't happen.

edit- A trade with the Flyers is probably more of a long shot. Trades like this do not happen between longtime division rivals.

The part that worries me is that Flyers fans are itching to run him out of town. Always a bad sign.

Philly has given Gagne's agent permission to talk to other teams for a possible trade according to LeBrun.

Agent for Simon Gagne tells ESPN.com he's been given permission by Flyers to talk directly to teams but so far there's no deal...

They did trade Lindros to the Rangers.

I like Simon Gagne, but if we have to pickup some injury prone players, I have a tough time choosing him over Savard.

Dubinsky should stay on the wing. He is better there.

Depending on the price to acquire Gagne, I wouldn't. Savard is signed for 7 more years. Gagne for just one more. It probably will be cheaper to get Gagne and if he gets hurt at some point during the season, he is only on the books for the rest of next season. If Savard got hurt, he'd be on the books for another 6 years.

I always liked Gagne and respected him as a very classy and talented player, but with that being said... Gaborik is already an injury risk and Gagne is one concussion away from retirement *COUGH* Lindros *COUGH* LaFontaine.

Kovalchuk or bust.

I like him, but don't want him. Didn't he have multiple hernias last year? As well as his history of concussion?

Eklund doens't think that the Flyers would trade Gagne to the Rangers:

Quote:
Responding to rumors in the last day or so that the NY Rangers, Leafs, and Kings have inquired about Simon Gagne, who could be dealt as early as today: I would be shocked if the Flyers would move Gagne within the division...especially to the Rangers. I am still hearing the Kings are the #1 option, and the Flames and Ducks may have interest
He also writes:

Quote:
The Rangers are interested in Alexandre Frolov, and Ryan Johnson
A couple of weeks late on that one Eklund lol. Who is Ryan Johnson?

Ryan Johnson is a random 4th line center.

Would be a typical Slats Rissmiller signing.
