[ANA/NYR] Steve Eminger to Rangers for Aaron Voros and Ryan Hillier
Hey look, it's more blind hatred for the Rangers no matter what they do (even if it's a completely inconsequential move like this one). It's the cool thing to do these days! Let's completely dissect a trade of a spare forward and a #7 dman with similar contracts and rip the Rangers apart for it.
What else do you expect?
ZOMG TEH RANGORZ SPENT 6.5M ON WAD DREADDEN LAWL!!
You know when you go to a circus and watch a clown doing tricks and making people laugh by embarrassing himself? He's kind of like that. Except it isn't intentional.
Good luck finding either for Redden. Another what, $26 million to go on that deal? I'm sure the owners are going to be ecstatic to pay him when they see him on the farm.
You really know nothing about the Dolan family, do you? $26M to them is chump-change.
You're right, but still better than Redden, and over 5 million a year less in cap hit.

No, you freed up just under 150K, and we just freed up about 5.5 million a year off the cap with having a suitable 6/7 so Redden can go to Hartford.
This reminds me of Dodgeball when LaFleur gets back onto the team due to a Chuck Norris vote, and then thanks him, and Chuck Norris then thanks LaFleur.

Eminger sucked big time. He is ok as a 6th defenseman but he's to expensive for that role. A 6th guy can't make over 1 million IMO. But the reason I love this trade is because it means Murray will be forced to do something to the defense. Whether it's a trade or a signing, it's still an upgrade. On the Ducks board we were all talking about how we were worried about going into the season with a 4/5 combo of eminger/sbisa.
Great, get Bieksa, and we'll get rid of Redden. Honestly, I don't think there's a defenseman in the NHL worse than Redden.

Can you guys tell me about voros? Don't know much about him. Fighter? Agitator? Enforcer?
Eh, I would say a little bit of a fighter and agitator. Like a bigger version of Sean Avery that could be a better player if he worked on his overall skating. If he played consistently throughout the season, he could be a 15-15-30 player, but he'll show flashes of brilliance, and then disappear for 15 games.

The Rangers get rid of 2, or will once Redden is waived.
Hillier was a bit of a fan favorite/veteran and was a good hard worker on the Mooseheads. I doubt he amounts to anything in the NHL but I will be rooting for him. He isn't as talented as Logan MacMillan was but a lot of his offence he generated on his own and did not rely on Voracek like MacMillan. Should be a good depth forward for the AHL.
Varos might actually make a good 4th line Center, if he's as nasty as I've heard and likes to fight. but Honestly, I could care less about the guy, waive his ass. I'm just glad to be rid of Eminger, free up 125k and get a decent prospect for our AHL offiliate.
Don't try and act like you got the better end of the deal, you took on more salary for a 6/7 crappy defenseman.
Decent prospect and "Varos". LOL. Yeah, enjoy buddy.
Now that R2 and Carter are gone, the ducks needed a new whipping boy for Carlyle. They get one in Varos.
Carlyle hates giving his 4th liners more than 5 minutes a game, so I don't see this being a big problem.
When he gets time, he better fight, be extremely physical, and make no turnovers or he'll be in the box/waivers quickly.
I'll say this for Voros, he's a willing fighter. But he is perhaps the worst fighter in the NHL. I dont think he's ever won a fight. It got to where we would cringe the second he dropped the gloves. He does seem like a really well liked guy, but Brandon Prust took his job after one shift
Toughness. He's superior to Wade Redden. Contracts not included.
He is essentially looking like Reddens replacement at 1/6 the cap hit
Their stats from last season are SCAREY similar. Rangers are adding more youth to the Blueline with McD. They need some durable 7th man experience to fall back on that doesnt cost too much.
Voros for Eminger is a good move for the Rangers. Not sure how it helps the Ducks

It helps the Ducks because Steve Eminger is no longer a Duck.

Ducks need bottom 6 toughness.
Seriously, just tie a stick to a 10 foot long piece of fishing line and throw it on the ice from time to time and that's a better job than Redden.
Pretty funny how it's a garbage for garbage trade and both teams are happy with their returns lol.
I can tell you the Rangers are happy with their return because he does more for them at the 6th spot on defense than Redden EVER HAS AND WILL.
I'm pretty sure this means he's gone for real. Especially considering the fact that Glen has in the past, and will give spots to kids who play well in camp, see: Dubinsky, Del Zotto, Staal, Blackburn... Sather may not be able to give up his overpayment in free agency addiction, but he has stuck true to his words about keeping the good young talent and giving them chances. McDonagh will have every chance in the world. Sanguinetti and Sauer got their chances, and I think McDonagh will be better than both of them, so we'll see.

The Ducks needed to add some toughness to the bottom 6 after Brown was traded. Add that with the fact that none of our 4th liners can play LW and Voros is a good fit. Eminger had absolutely no spot on this team. He was our 7th defenseman being paid 1 million +. that's too much for a guy that won't play. If he helped on the pk or powerplay it would be different. He's just that bad. Voros will at least have a role on this team. A small one, but he will be of use. Take that into account with the fact that we save a little cap space and over 500k in actual salary and it's very good for Anaheim. We aren't a cap team in general.
