Eklund rumor - Sorry Buffalo fans. But what would R Regher be worth to your team? Who would you be willing to trade?
eklund claiming from his source (his dog) - roy + for regher?

I'd give up Connolly, but only if we had a deal in place to send a defenseman or two somewhere for another C

We need more centers not fewer.

Not gonna happen unless we bring in another C with defensive prospects.

We dont need a center until we trade Roy or Connolly, people seem to ignore that fact. If Roy and Connolly are on the team they are our top 2 centers.

id love to get Regehyr, but not giving up Roy for him.

even if we could get Regehr for Connolly, i dont know if id do it... we have no center depth, and its the 2nd most important position on a team

Or get hurt...

I still think we need to pick up another center, I'd much rather go into the season with 5 and have options in terms of moving one to wing (like...say...Niedermayer), especially given we really don't have much down the middle on the farm ready to step in (Adam might be able to by the end of the season, but certainly nobody right now).

Ok a rephrase. We need better centers. And if we moved Roy or Connolly for Regejr you'd be ok with Goose and Nieds as the 2 and 3? We are one injury away from that. We need another center. Preferably a top 6 center.

Sabres centers right now are weak unless they decide to turn this team into a defense-first (trapping) team, as all our centers play a good two-way game. Personally, I like offense, so selfishly I want to see an upgrade in the top 2 lines, however what we have could get be sufficient to get them into the playoffs.

Not a chance. Roy is on one of the best contracts in the NHL and is a 70-ish point threat every season, not to mention center not being a deep position for the Sabres.

Roy for Regier + "good young centerman who can step in and contribute" might work...

No, if they traded Roy or Connolly I would expect them to bring in another center.

When they played that way, they won games.

As opposed to the WC trip and afterwards when they stumbled a bit to the finish line and started conceding more.

Personally, I'd rather see the team win.

No he didn't. Not even close.

I expect your negativity. Its as predictable as the sun rising But at least know what your taling about. They never played a Lemaire like system.

After taking alead they did what almost every team in the league does.

But the system they employ is nothing at all like a Lemaire style.

If Ruff and Co. are absolutely convinced that Ennis is a center in the NHL and think he's ready to handle the duty this year, then I'd be all over a Regehr for Connolly+ swap.

Would leave out top 6 awfully thin if one of them gets injured, but I'd LOVE to pair Regehr with Myers for the next few years....

I really don't understand why you don't hang on to Connolly this year. Isn't he playing for a contract?

Regehr certainly is appealing for his toughness and character - qualities the Sabres are short on. However, if Regier makes a trade for him, the odds of him getting a PP defenseman or scoring winger basically go from slim to nil - and those are greater needs to address IMO.

On top of that, just as many have said on the boards, it does not seem at all likely that Regier plans to give up on either of his "top 20" centers.

After the signings of Jokinen & Tanguay, I saw on TSN that the Flames are in serious cap trouble at the moment - so, while I can see Sutter in all his genius being willing to deal Regehr and his $5M contract to save money, taking back a $4M center isn't going to help his payroll situation much.

Add it all up and it's yet another one of Eklund's doozies lacking any logic.

Ruff preaches defensive RESPONSIBILITY.

In no way has it been, or will be, a trapping system.

It's motivated by an overwhelming desire to see some culture change happen on the Sabres' roster. Connolly epitomizes what's lacking on the team - passion, heart, competitiveness, playoff success. It's why the media and the fans have targeted him - the quicker the Sabres cut ties with him, the sooner they can start retooling the roster with stronger-willed players.

Until the Boston Series, the sabres were like 30-1 going into the 3rd with a lead. They didn't hang on to those leads by 'preaching defense', they did it with 5 guys lined up in the neutral zone.

WTF happened in the playoffs then? I think we lost 3 games we had the lead in.
