Was my favourite player growing up as a Canucks fan. Happy to see this happen

Awesome, he deserves it. In before the incoming hatefest.

Retiring #19...It's The right thing to do.

I've been beating this drum since Naslund retired... glad it's finally going to happen.

Sweet. I just keep hoping they lower the bar until Gino's glorious #29 is retired.

I guess we're embracing not even getting to the cup finals as worthy of jersey retirement now...

Sad.

If #19 gets retired, then #10 needs to as well.

Where did Naslund lead us?

“It’s going to be special and neat to have a chance to come back to the arena and I’m sure there will be a lot of memories going through my head and that I’ll be nervous too, but I’m really looking forward to it,” Naslund told Canucks.com from his home in Sweden.

“It’s definitely a great honour and I’m very humbled and thankful to Mike Gillis and the Aquilini family and the whole organization. It’s been a privilege spending such a large part of my and our family’s lives in Vancouver and having a chance to play for the Canucks for such a long time, it’s a special place for us and it always will be.”

“For me with kids, what a special thing to have dad’s jersey up there. It’s tough to really grasp, but it’s definitely a huge thing and it’s tough to compare it to anything else.”

Ya, what a ridiculously low bar they're setting by retiring the number of the franchise leader in goals & points.

Great. Now we'll have to retire every number of a decent player who plays well for a few seasons.

We'll be seeing 22 and 33 up there for sure.

What about #44? He was good for what 1.5 seasons?

I don't agree with the decision, but I understand it.

If it were up to me, #19 would be on the ring on honour and not in the rafters, but I don't have a huge issue with it.

Obviously I wasn't a supporter of this move but I think that people should have a little respect. Whether you think he deserved it or not you cannot deny that he did a lot of very good things for the franchise.

Congrats to Naslund.

But #19 is such a great number, it's going to be sad to never see #19 again.

Nazzy was great and one of my all-time favorites, but he's no Sakic or Yzerman, both players MUCH more deserving of having their #19 sweater retired by their respective franchises.

I would rather it just stay open and just honor Markus for his time spent in Vancouver. He had a solid decade of work here, he deserves some kind of fan gesture, I'm just not sure this is it.

Sometimes I feel good about being a Canuck fan and then I read threads like this and realize that we're the dirt worst.

Nah. He was about 1.5 seasons away from being up there. What about #10?

It's funny if Naslund was any number but #19 people wouldn't care nearly as much. Suck it up, no one like Yzerman or Sakic will wear the magical #19 for the Canucks, atta boy Nazzy.
