If he wasn't coming here, (wishful thinking, I know), better that he goes to LA.

"Screws" the Devils how exactly?

Oh, creative minds.

"Screws" isn't the right word I guess. Just amused that the Devils paid for a rental, did nothing with him, then couldn't sign him.

But thanks for dropping by.

Good thank god this is over.

Now we can start to look at more realistic options for our Rangers.

I'll believe it when it's announced, or when Dreger confirms it.

And I hope one of those two things happens soon.

In reality, I think the huge contract might have screwed the Devils over. I'm glad they have that money to improve the team in other ways and to lock up Parise next season. I don't think he would have been a good option for the Rangers either. He hasn't proven he can win at all, and the last thing the Rangers need is a big contract like that. Let him sign with LA and screw them over once they have to lock up Doughty, Johnson, Simmonds, Brown, etc.

I'm was about to say the same thing. While that guy does break some stuff every now and then, I think other outlets would have picked up on it by now, like Dreger, LeBrun, or Kevin Allen.

Kinda sounds like when the Devils had a "deal" in place for Kovalchuk last week fot 7 years $60 million or something like that.

I have a feeling this is going to continue on for at least another week.

They are losing one of the top goal-scorers in the league...a perennial 40-goal scorer. I don't see how losing him makes them better.

IF the Brooks story is true then I think the Devils unscrewed themselves here. No way any team should want a part of that kind of contract.

Because he wasn't exactly a sniper when he was here and the Devils offense is in much better shape than their defense. They're much better off getting a very good PMD and maybe adding one more piece then they are tying their hands with Kovalchuk. Elias, Parise, Langenbrunner, Arnott, and Zajac are more than enough offense (add Zubrus, Clarkson, Rolston too). The defense consists of Greene and Volchenkov as the only two real solid pieces. Tallinder, White, and Salvador are questionable at best.

Interested to see what contract the two agreed on given the Kings supposedly didn't like Kovalchuk's original demands. Still, glad it's over and done with - expected destination, too.

If he does sign with LA, I hope the Rangers waive Redden, sign Demitra to the same contract that Prospal signed, and then sign Frolov for two years $6.5 million total ($3.25 million cap hit). Run lines:

Dubinsky - Demitra - Gaborik
Prospal - Anisimov - Frolov
MZA - Drury - Callahan (The midget line lol)
Avery - Boyle - Prust
Boogieman

Staal - Roszival
MDZ - Girardi
Gilroy/Eminger - McD
Eminger/Gilroy

Lundqvist
Biron

Big difference between doesn't makes them "better"...and "screws" them.

Surely you can make that distinction, no? Unless we are limited to bi-polar declarations.

Lombardi tells TSN. "Ilya Kovalchuk is coming to Los Angeles for face to face discussions, just like any free agent would. We are a long way from agreeing on a contract."

from Dreger.

Guess we'll see if Kovy has the balls to tell Dean face to face that he wants 100M.
