I've always liked Dupont. I'm glad he's still with us.

It would be nice see a Moose DuPont with the Rangers since as a kid I hated a guy with that name who played for the Fleas.

People. Guys. The Rangers still retain the player rights when the QO expires at 5pm today. Wasn't that covered in first post? Could break out the CBA legalese but Mike Russo explains it in layman terms in discussing Josh Harding

Quote:
When a qualifying offer expires, it basically means there's no longer a starting point for negotiations. In fact, technically, a team can start offering less than the qualifying offer, which in this case is $1.1 million. So again, unless he's traded, I think he signs today or tomorrow.
http://www.startribune.com/sports/wi...h_47cQiU47cQUU

The Rangers made the QO by June 28 to retain the rights. Offer is valid until July 15. Team is allowed to offer less than was required to retain the player rights if it expires on July 15. The player doesn't become a UFA. Happens every July. How many players have become UFA's in July when their QO's expires?ZERO.

It's been said a couple times in this thread. I think I answered the question again a couple posts up before the question was asked again lol.

It was a "great pick" where talent was concerned. There were injury concerns even then, and he was broadly viewed as a 2nd-3rd round pick for that reason.

I hope the Rangers can get SOMETHING for him, because he's all that's left from that miserable Leetch trade.

His actual NHL salary last year was 600k. The rest was in performance bonuses. So I'm pretty sure his QO was only 660k.

Also, the QO isn't always 110%. It's only 110% if the player's previous year salary was 660k or less. If it was more than 660k but less than 1 mil, it's 105%. 1 mil or more is 100%.

I wonder if the Ranger website calling him a "veteran Hartford forward" says anything about his future with the Rangers.

What are you thinking? Dupont will be moved? Or he will remain a veteran in Hartford again?

I just think calling a 23 year a veteran doesn't bode well for him. Maybe I'm just making too much out of it.

He's spent 3 years in Hartford straight without any legitimate callups if I remember correctly. So I think its fair to say he's in the Corey Locke, PA Parenteau category.

Dale Weise has surpassed him, my understanding is that Dane Byers is better, Carl Hagelin has better upside, so I really cant imagine this guy having any chance with the organization.

I'd say he's probably in the same boat Tom Pyatt was with us...was buried on our depth chart but still has bottom 6 potential.

I'm not fond of Brian Boyle... What are our chances of Dupont outplaying him in camp for the 4th line Center role?

Torts seems to like Boyle, we invested a 3rd round pick on Boyle, he has size, he looked a lot better in the 2nd half especially when he had a steady pair of linemates in Prust and Shelley before he got hurt, and maybe I'm wrong, but while Dupont CAN play center, I'm pretty sure he's been playing left wing in Hartford for the 3 years he's been there. Will be pretty tough to all of a sudden center an NHL line for him, IMO.

Boyle does have the PK factor going for him as well, and he's good in his own end. He's proven this, Dupont hasn't. It's nice for a player to have a great pre-season, but it's not the same as the regular season.

Stranger things have happened, but I don't really see Dupont beating him out for a spot. If anything they'd try Weise at center, I think he has some experience at the position.

Torts said we want to get younger, but it's not as if Boyle is old.

I'll refrain from going on my anti-Boyle rant... Let me just say that if he's our future 4th line center for the next couple years, I won't be too pleased about that....

Was discussing Dupont on another forum where two members who are regular Pack watchers chimed in to say that Dupont played Center for the majority of last season with the exception of a few games and that he was solid on the PK for the Pack....

I don't really think teams think that deep into who their "future" 4th line center is. It's not a part that's all that difficult to replace, find, etc. at a very low cost. And I'd say usually you've got a player that fits the bill if your team did a halfway decent job of scouting out the player.

I think your right about that. If anything it's a not so subtle way of the orginization of letting him know where he truly stands with the team.

I really hope Sauer makes some noise in training camp. I would love to see him in our top 6.

I would love to see him traded. Where is he gonna play? Who is he gonna beat out?

This is a fair look at the defensive depth chart:

Staal
Girardi
Rozsival
Del Zotto
McDonagh
Redden
Gilroy
Emminger

Thats 8 right there. Add in he's also got Valentenko looking to earn a spot I just don't see how he's gonna make it.

dupont is also cheap, way more physical and can play both center and wing. and boyle although big he plays like a scared hockey player and isnt physical at all.. dupont brings more to the table.
