Off to the big Land of Sand

Well, as many of you followed a few years ago, I joined the Army once my job fell through and have been "enjoying" that life, working on helicopters, ever since. It has been a grat time, but now the real job starts. I'll be heading overseas (cant say where) in the near future (cant say when either) for a while (cant say how long....OPSEC is crazy!).

We have been told there may be wireless internet available, which would be nice, but we were also told not to hold our breaths. So we shall see. If nothing else I'll be able to check every few days on the computers in our MWR tent and check on what has been going on. I am hopeful I'll be able to get some pictures to post, but obviously there is only a slim possibility that anything I could phototgraph over there would be within regulations to post online. So we shall see.

If there is anyone willing to write me letters about how the season is going, etc, that may be my only way to keep up for a while. Obviously I will have some internet at some point, but not sure when and how reliable it will be. Any contact from back home is great. Please PM me and I will write you with my address when I get there.

I will do my best to keep you all updated on how things are going, for those few who may be interested, as best I can while still keeping info within OPSEC (Operational Security) regulations. Hope everyone enjoys their summer and next NHL/AHL season!

Regards,
PFC Justin Hamlin

Good luck and stay safe! My dad is at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan working as a contractor right now and he said it's HOT so make sure to drink plenty of water which I'm sure you've been told a million times by now LOL. The humidity isn't as bad as the Southeast but still.

We all hope to hear from you when you get back so make sure to come to HFboards. Thanks for your service.

All the best to ya man! Wishing you a safe and sound return that finds the Canes and Caniacs as happy and successful as possible. (The Canes stuff is optional. The returning safe is not.)

Empty Factory, tarheelhockey, dmonk, DaveG, Hurricane_SVT, Erik Stall, Zach - #1 Canes Fan, DaleCooper, Caniac4ever, Pirate Caniac, and everyone else.....

Thank you all for your support, not just of me, but of our armed services. We need that support. Sometimes thats what keeps us going and helps us understand why we do what we do. I was always a huge supporter before I got in, and still love meeting and talking with veterans and letting them know how appreciative I am of their service. Please keep that support up and let soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines how much you care and support them.

Thanks again all, see you all on the other side

Lol OPSEC and PERSEC is such a joke. They'll tell you that all day long but I'll bet there's already been a ton of articles in the papers about where you're going and when. It's hilarious.

Good luck, PFC. Stay safe.

Hey all just wanted to say im over here safe. Not all the way there, but i cant say where at. But so far it has been an interesting trip. LOTS of flying in the last 20 hours or so (like, about 16 hours out of the 20). And I have see 2 sunrises already since I left just barely over 24 hours ago when I left in the late evening! Crazy! Seen some interesting countries and stuff from both the air and ground. Hope all is well there!

AS15U -
Just to add to what others have already posted - keep your head low and be safe. Although I don't necessarily agree with all of the reasons our government got us there in the first place, I'm 100% behind the folks like you that are standing on the wall for us. I play rec hockey with some of the LeJeune Marines that will soon be joining you - prayers for you all to come home safe and sound to the friends and family who miss you and think of you daily.

Well now that I have gotten as far as I am at this point, I can tell you all that I made stops in Romania and Kyrgyzstan. Both were very unique and cool to check out. Romania was only at the airport, and Kyrgyzstan was only at the little air force part by the airport we came into. But it was still really cool to see the different landscapes and whatnot. The people were very nice.

As for where I am now, all I can say is mountains and IT'S HOT!
