That's so odd, you think after extensively covering a team for X amount of years you'd at least become a part-time fan.

Next year when Langs comes off the books. I believe he would have been traded by now if Lou and Conte weren't high on him.

And just because Tallinder was brought in to mentor Urbom and the other Swedes, doesn't mean Urbom is a lock to make the team this year. I do think it makes it more likely he will, but we have to remember that we never rush prospects. Tallinder has 3 more years after this one to mentor Urbom.
That really is the only big reason he slipped. Almost every draft guide I read, had him going in the early-mid twenties. Aside from having a few lapses in his own end (what young defenseman doesn't?), he seems to have a pretty good set of skills. Very encouraging how much muscle he was able to put on over the past year as well.

Merrill I haven't seen, but one scout said he was the best outlet passer in this year's draft by far.
Good analysis on Urbom, but the thing that stands out the most to me, and I know I've said this before, are his instincts in the offensive zone. He picks his spots extremely well, and always seems to be the right position to get off a quality shot sneaking off the point and into the hashmarks. IMO, it's these instincts that will result in double digit goals from him in the future. He does have a hard shot, but his instincts will be what get him most of his goals.

Urbom reminds me quite a bit of Kubina.

I think next year will be his year too. I remember reading his interview on HF earlier this season and he admitted that he wasn't having as good a year as he would like. He needs a big year with Albany, and being that it his 3rd (to be fair 2 1/2) year in North America, he's due to breakout and has got to be chopping at the bit pretty hard to make an impact. 20+ goals is a must this year. I'm worried he goes back to Russia if he doesn't have a good season.

He's getting really good, but he was a mess.
I agree, I worry about prospects who are going to Michigan. They don't get the sort of discipline or structure we'd prefer for them. Hopefully a player like Merrill who already has good vision for the game will not be tainted too much by the lack of direction.

I really hope the coaching staff on the Devils doesn't restrict him from jumping up in the play too often. He needs to learn the right time to pinch, the right time to shoot, and the right time to drop back. But if he can learn to pick his spots correctly, he could be very productive.

I think Vasyunov wins a roster spot before Tedenby does this season. He is older, more mature and has a more well rounded game at this point. McLean coached him last year as well.

He is? That is news to me. Tedenby has loads of holes to his game. He won't pass, turns the puck over too much and doesn't understand who to cover in his own end. On top of that, with all the skills he has he doesn't get himself into many positions in the offensive zone to capitalize on those skills. When Tedenby is 22, there is no doubt in my mind he could be miles ahead of where Vasyunov is now. For now he isn't.

But Vasyunov played in a highly superior league, right?

That is news to me. And I've seen him play regularly... for what.... 2-3 years now?

Wait, that TG article said Travis and Darcy drove together from Winnipeg to NJ?

Bit of a haul.

Ouch, that's one of those awful/awesome road trips. They're great fun, if you can laugh at how horrible it is while you're in the situation.

On a much smaller scale, we used to drive from CT to St Louis with no break for my sports team in college. Some of the most fun I've had, but also arguably because of how absurd it got at times.

Honestly, if a kid like Tedenby has to play a year in Albany, it won't be a tragedy.

What we do need is for one of Josefson or Henrique to make the team as our 3rd line center. Both making the team would be an added bonus. We can also use two rookie defensemen to make it and I hope its Corrente and Eckford. They have both put in their time.

We'll see who's better (and more likely to make the team) between Tedenby and Vasyunov in training camp, because both will be there this year. Right now all there is to go on to compare them is last year's performance in prospects camp, when Tedenby was blowing everybody away.
