Honestly one of the worst things about a contract like Campbell's is that the real money is the same as the cap hit. That means teams trying to reach basement have to spend dollar for dollar rather than getting a deal like Jason Blake where it's 3M real dollars and 4M cap hit.

Still might be a possibility of sending him to a team like the Isles to help them get to the floor. Trade Campbell and a 2nd rounder for a mid level prospect.

Gotta love the Leafs fans suggesting Campbell + Sharp for Kaberle.....

If Campbell is going, he'll be goign with guys like Beach, Stalberg, picks, prospects, etc. to a team nowhere near the cap.

If Sharp is going, he'll be going to a team that has $4m in cap space to spend and can send the Hawks 1 or 2 players woh make less than $1m + picks/prospects. Toronto may be in on this, but it's unlikely that the Hawks brass likes that many Leafs prospects, especially since they already picked up Hayes, Stalberg, Paradis and diDomenico.

It's becoming quite apparent that Chicago's cap situation is FAR worse than what was previously known. Thanks, Tallon! Or was it Stan's fault? I forget.

Anyway, i'm sure their tears are currently filling up the top of the Stanley Cup. Boo-hoo-hoo! Cry me a river.

Caputi (not a prospect I think) and John Mitchell for Sharp? :O

What about Campell for Souray straight up?

We get the Campbell contract at 6 x 7.1
Chi gets Souray at 2 x 5.5

I'd actually agree with this; well I was aware Chicago was up against the cap, I did not know they'd have this much trouble icing a complete roster.

It's all fine and good if you trade Campbell for draft picks, but then you're taking a 23+ minute per night defenseman off the blueline, and replacing him with basically a league minimum-type contract.

I'm thinking they'll try to keep Sharp, but if he's gone their forward corps is looking pretty empty.

I agree moving Sharp wouldn't be the desired move, but I don't see someone jumping at Campbell and his $7.1 cap hit over the next 6 years. It may come down to Sharp vs. Hjalmarsson vs. Niemi. Who do you want to keep?

Sharp and Hjalmarsson. Cyaz Niemi. Thanks for the good WCF series, anyway.

The 7.1M isn't that huge of a sticking point. Sure it's bad, but if they wanted to get rid of him they could. It's 7.1M for the next 6 or 7 years or whatever it is. No one wants to handcuff themselves that far into the future.
Don't let the red hair fool you, that's not Brian Campbell holding the cup.

3 pages in and nobody has "shopped" Jokinen into a Cambell or Sharp picture?

A little disappointed...

With Huet in the minors they have roughly 6M in cap space with 9 forwards, 4 dmen and 0 goalies.

Like I said earlier, technically they can slide in under the cap by filling it out with guys right near the league min, but in all likelihood someone else will have to be moved. Sharp (3.9) and Bolland (3.375) are the two making significant amounts of money (read over 1.2M) who aren't truly part of the "core."

Yes they're very important, but if push comes to shove, they'll be moved a lot sooner than guys like Toews or Kane.

maybe NYI? They have a bunch of league min guys and prospects and they could really use both.

They have a lot of guys around the minimum ready to step in. This is the route they are going.

Uhh...because otherwise they probably can't ice a complete NHL roster and stay under the salary cap?

This has been amazing to watch.
Agreed.

Oilers fans worldwide are happy you aren't the GM. This is a stupid proposal and you should be embarassed about it.

(BTW your 2nd terrible proposal so far in this thread)
