Boy our blueline sure is improving at an amazing rate!
Its moving at the speed of Granny in her Oldsmobile while talking into her shoe (she thinks its her cell phone) while in the fast lane and thinking its Sunday
Woohoo! Elite blue line here we come! I'll be watching for DW to scout my EE beer league team's blue line. I think a few of us have a chance of getting signed!

not unless someone from your team was born/raised in Massachusetts.
maybe there's some skewed translation of the nhl rules that lets you play more than 6 skaters at a time if the defenseman makes league minimum. all a part of dw's plan to exploit this.
It a backup plan for salary cap issues, health, and a potential trade that does move out a defenseman. No risk in it. In the same way there was upside (never materialized) in signing Semenov, there is a small amount of upside here. Its also DW signaling to the fan base he does have contingency plans. We can only hope that this isn't the plan he had in mind for the Hammer match.
Worcester depth, yes. But could this signing be a backup in case no acquisitions are made on D?
It's not a great market out there right now and it would make sense for DW to wait until the season's underway to rock the boat if he needs to. If we have to overpay for a rental player, we might as well wait to see if there's a prospect that can make the leap in training camp.

No. We have a full NHL defense signed already, plus a #7.
So should we expect Wilson to stand pat with the lineup? I'd prefer that to him chasing and overpaying for rentals a la Campbell and Guerin.
WS is talking about the realities of the market and what DW has said before. He will get someone if it is a clear upgrade and obviously within the cap. He has a full d lineup (albeit not very good even by DW's admission). If he can't get a favorable trade or FA, that is how he will start the season. No trade or FA is a snap-your-fingers, done deal. It involves cost in terms of cap hit and in the case of trades, assets.
There is no way that an offersheet was his first option. He obviously has more options and it will take time as he works through them all until a door opens. That door may not open until the deadline and we are all hoping against the process having to extend that far.
