I mean, I heard it this a.m. on the Fan. Who probably heard it from Brooks or some other NY media outlet. Still, it was the first time I heard anything on the Fan about Kovalchuk.

It's really not. Worst case scenario you buy him out at the end of the contract for peanuts when the money/year is next to nothing.

When you have a contract with such a long term, the uncertainty goes up quite a bit. The CBA is going to be renegotiated twice or maybe even three times during the term of the contract. Who knows what changes will be made. That's crazy.

And I am of the belief that you should never sign a contract with the obvious intention of buying it out before it is up. Maybe the buyout rules will change, and we'll get screwed. In any case, dead cap space is never a good thing.

I was wrong anyway, buyout cap values aren't calculated using the remaining real money they're calculated using the cap hit.

Guys, a little birdie told me the Devils have a new offer on the table for Kovalchuk. He gets 10 years 65 million, his wife gets 10 years 35 million, and his kid is going to be the new mascot known as Lil' Kovy. He will be signed for 10 years 20 million.

10 years, 120 million dollars for the Kovy family.

Nothing fishy there. his wife can be the head devils dancer and Lil' Kovy can run around in the blow up nj devil costume they bring out now and then. All true employees, nothing illegal about it.

Plush lil' kovy exists and inflatable mrs. kovy as well. Devils make no profits on the items, every dollar goes to the kovy family. Dolla dolla bill y'all.

BP is capping that oil leak soon! Kovy needs to step it up otherwise he'll outlast the Gulf coast crisis.

Kovy isn't signing anywhere - he's starting his own team with Frolov, Ponikarovsky and Afinogenov. Team UFA.

Too bad Niedermeyer already signed with Buffalo because he would have been a great center for Team Floater.

Yeah, with a big question mark inside a dollar sign sorta like the Habs' logo. Represents their desire for a payday combined with their indecisiveness!!!

(Photoshop, anyone?)

There is no way Lou offered Kovy a 17 year contract. He's the last GM in the entire league I could see handing out a deal like that.

I just read this bit of info. If kovy does sign with LA, it won't be announced until after the MLB Allstar game. So, I guess we could possibly hear something tomorrow.

I hear the music now........

Flew in from Miami Beach BOAC
Didn't get to bed last night
On the way the paper bag was on my knee
Man i had a dreadful flight
I'm back in the U.S.S.R.
You don't know how lucky you are boy
Back in the U.S.S.R.

Been away so long I hardly knew the place
Gee it's good to be back home
Leave it till tomorrow to unpack my case
Honey disconnect the phone
I'm back in the U.S.S.R.
You don't know how lucky you are boy
Back in the U.S.
Back in the U.S.
Back in the U.S.S.R.

Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the West behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
That Georgia's always on my my my my my my my mind.

I'm back in the U.S.S.R.
You don't know how lucky you are boy
Back in the U.S.S.R.

Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the West behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
That Georgia's always on my my my my my my my mind.

Show me round your snow peaked mountains way down south
Take me to your daddy's farm
Let me hear your balalaika's ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm.
I'm back in the U.S.S.R. hey
You don't know how lucky you are boy
Back in the U.S.S.R.
