We're going with size this year so we can intimidate the Russians and the Swedes because they don't like the physical game. Pretty good strategy which should get us up until we play the Yanks in the cross over game.

Oh and Sweden-Canada 10pm on New Year's eve here, safe to say there might be a good reason to drink - for various reasons..
To be honest, does it really surprise you that tournament organizers who knew Canada and U.S. games would draw large crowds would put them at the HSBC Arena?

I would like to know who in IIHF decides the U-20 World Juniors... like one Pool is full of top teams and all B pool has is Finland and USA why not have 3 top teams in each pool to make the tournament completive instead of having 4-5 good teams in 1 pool

Added the live broadcast listings for TSN & NHL Network to the OP.

TSN2 and NHL Network are also rebroadcasting many of the games on delay, but it looks like they're only repeats of games they're doing live already.

December 30th:

Slovakia - Switzerland in HSBC
Sweden - Czech Republic in Dwyer

Both start at 3:00 PM ET.

Can anyone explain why?

there are 4 games scheduled that day, so they had to split them between the 2 arenas. 2 games in the 3:00 timeslot and 2 in the 7:00 timeslot.

what's to explain?

what's funny is that its pretty unlikely we play the americans in the 'crossover game', as one of canada or usa is likely to get a bye, if not both.

On the schedule there are only two games for the quarterfinals but in a quarterfinal there are used to be 8 teams and 4 games as I know. Can someone explain why there are only two games for the QFs on the schedule? (Maybe the first of each group is immediately qualified for the semifinals??)

Your correct the first place in each group gets a bye.

All the non host pool games (ie. Pool A) games are played at the co host arena (ie. Niagara). This year is an exception since Canada is not in the same pool as the USA. The organizers realize Canada is the REAL host of the tournament so the Canada games are in HSBC since they will all sell out. All non-Canadian Pool A games are played in Niagara.

Last year all pool B games (Canada was pool A) where played in Regina while the pool A games were played in Saskatoon. Next year the non Canada pool games will be played in Edmonton and the Canada pool games and medal round games will be in Calgary (sorry Edmonton).

You are incorrect. All of Canada's Pool games will take place in Edmonton, while the non-Canada pool/medal round games will take place in Calgary.

They are trying to treat it as a somewhat equal host situation. Calgary gets the Medal/Relegation rounds and the Pool not including Canada. Edmonton gets Canada's pool.

Let's say Canada wins against Sweden (Just saying).. Who would they play in the semis? The #2 in their group vs. #3 in the other group or #3 in their group vs. #2 in the other group?

Also, the group leaders can't play each other in the semi-finals, correct?

If Canada wins, Sweden would play the #3 in the other pool (Switzerland most likely) and the winner would play the USA (presumably at this point).

In this scenario, Canada would play the winner of #2 (Finland) vs #3 (Russia/Czech).

I was just about to ask the same question, so thank you.

So it's basically:

#1A vs 2B/3A
and
#1B vs 2A/3B
