Patrik Elias: Tomas Kaberle Would Be A 'Wonderful Addition' To Devils

Patrik Elias wasn't happy to see the Devils lose defenseman Paul Martin to free agency, but he has a suggestion on how to fill that hole.

Tomas Kaberle.

Elias would like to see the Devils trade for the Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman.

"Personally, I wouldn't be the only one to love to play with that guy," Elias said. "It's unbelievable how he controls the game. I think he'd be a wonderful addition to our team.

General manager Lou Lamoriello says he still has a few trades in mind. One could be for Kaberle.

Good for Kaberle, I feel so bad for the man at times.

Pay up then.

He'll re-sign with the Devils because he maintains that he prefers to remain in the East. He's got Elias there who is a fellow countryman, and he's a natural fit there.

New Jersey just re-signed Clarkson so I doubt they'd trade him. I don't know what else would interest us.

We discussed this topic to death before and couldn't come to an accord. I know I proposed Adam Henrique + David Clarkson.

Langenbrunner is a good leader, there's no doubt about that and something the Leafs could really use... but let's face it, his time is very limited at this point and Burke would want no part it in at the expense of Kaberle.

Eckford/Corrente have no use on the Leafs, actually not even the slightest use when we have Aulie/Mikus/Holzer and an already relatively young and deep blue line.

The two teams trading make sense considering Kaberle would love to play with Elias and he'd more than likely re-sign, but is there an offer that could actually work?

Sykora, now his thoughts on Kaberle... did someone get Patrik drunk and get him yammering or what?

It all comes down to what the Maple Leafs will accept. Clarkson is essentially off the table now because of the new contract. I have no idea what the Leafs are in the market for.

Nope. He isn't worth to the Devils what Burke wants.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, but let's be fair it's not what "Burke wants", Kaberle is our longest serving player and has been a fan favorite for years, it's obviously a price that teams will hesitate on.

Unfortunately there's no chance with this lol. Kaberle has said he wants to re-sign in Toronto prior to free agency (It may have been his agent).

That's the best deal Burke will get from Lou IMO. I would drop the Kovalchuk manhunt and concentrate on Kaberle. Moving Langenbrunner would mean that Rolston would take his spot in out top 6 and Tedenby could play on the 3rd line with YAYO and Clarkson.

Do it Lou

He can want to sign there all the live long day, but how many times has Burke tried to trade him now? At what point does Tomas get the hint?

Langenbrunner, Corrente/Eckford, and a pick will not get Kaberle in return. It's probably more like Clarkson, Henrique, and a pick. Maybe if you substitute Corrente/Eckford with Henrique the deal could be made.

Kaberle has this year left on his contract - no way you're giving up 3 players PLUS a pick to get him, let alone 1 of your recent multi-year signings as one of those players in Clarkson.

Screw this anyways - you have a better chance of getting Burns out of Minnesota for a more reasonable "price" than dealing with Burke.

Why would a team that is constantly trying to shop him around re-sign him?

I would love for Lou to put his hands on Brent Burns instead of Kaberle...

That has nothing to do whit his market value cause Lou doesn't give a flying **** if Kaberle is perceived as a god in Toronto. In Lou's eyes, he's basically trading for a PMD that's a pending UFA at seasons end, period.

If that was the case, the Bruins would've traded Ray Bourque to the Avs for their complete farm system and a decade's worth of 1st round picks.

Absolutely false.

If it was my choice I'd keep him in Toronto.

The point is no want wants soon to be 35 year old Langenbrunner, and a useless defensive prospect (To the Leafs).

You've got to be realistic, and if your GM actually wants him like the OP may have suggested well then he's got to pay the price, that's the reality of things guys.

It would be funny if we traded Elias for Kaberle. That would never happen in a million years, but still...
