He went back to Florida to pack up

Once again, all I believe is direct quotes from DL and any info/non info Hammond provides. Everything else is really a waist of time.

So Kovalchuk left and Grossman is staying behind for more talks. How can negotiations drag on so long? What can there possibly be left to discuss by two parties who aren't budging? **** or get off the pot.

If you read comments on Hammond's site, all those "thank you Rich for your hard work" and so on... Do people realize he is getting paid good money for his blogging? Not to mention, he only writes about what Lombardi allows (tells) him to. That's really hard work yeah...

Yeah, what a bunch of idiots thanking someone for doing their job. I never thank anyone not doing me personally a favor. The Internet needs more bitterness and entitlement and I'm glad you're taking up the torch because all these 'thank you' and 'good job' are really getting on my nerves.

First of all, how do you reach the conclusion that he only writes what Lombardi tells him to ?

I appreciate what Hammond writes, primarily because he writes what actually happens and doesn't run around (look at random twitter account) looking for rumours to report as "facts" like certain other "reporters" do. When something actually happens (like Kovy arriving in LA, he reports it, he reports what was going on while he was there etc.).

What he doesn't do is makes bold statements of dramatic "facts" (Like - KINGS OUT OF IT) every 5 hours like others do. Something that would completely destroy his credibility.

Is it true Kopitar is vastly overshadowed by the Lakers player at home?

No, not a chance! Vujacic is one of the most disliked athlete in Slovenia.

Hell no. In fact of all the NBA players Slovenia has, Vujacic is probably the only one who isn't well liked (due to some issues with the NT).

I agree. Very annoying. He's a guy with a blog and they talk about him like he's the second coming.

Good read, thanks for the link.

If the contract numbers are true, how do find some common ground? This has been going on for two weeks and it looks like the Kings and Kovy haven't come off there orginal offer.

Now the Kovalchuk left LA without a contract, the only thing I hope to hear about this whole thing is when and where Kovalchuk signs. If it happens on September 7th, fine, whatever, I just don't want to know anything about anything between now and then. Most of the rumors we've heard, the opposite has been true, whatever the hell that means. When you've heard any sort of fact, it's led nowhere, and most of the time the fact reported has been that there was nothing to report. Great, we knew Kovalchuk was flying out to LA. That created a few more days of speculation(shoot me), and apparently we're in the same place we were before he flew out. So he took the trip, but it's like he never did. These last two weeks have happened, but nothing has really happened, so July 1st has basically been a 336 hour day.

I'm still shocked that the Kovalchuk camp thought that they would get a contract anywhere close to what Atlanta was offering. Will be interesting to find out if Grossman is the one holding out for more money.

We were lead to believe that Kovalchuk would take less than market value to play with a "contender", but the way they are negotiating doesn't make sense. Kovalchuk wants the big payday and wants to sign with a "contender", someone needs to let him know that it won't happen.

If he signed with SJ or NJ, they would have to lose some significant players (contracts) to make it work, making them weaker overall.

That about sums it up. He left so much money on the table in Atlanta, but he also had no chance of winning there.

(have a better chance to) WIN or (take slightly less) MONEY... It seems like an easy choice.

How does it look when both are "not buding"? Are they just sitting quiet in each side of a table just staring?

Let's throw out another unsubstantiated scenario:

Rich was under the impression that the details were being worked out between Lombardi and Grossman, a deal was all but done (he reported that there wouldn’t be a 14th day) and then Leiweke calls AEG and Uncle Phil says that it is too much money to invest in one player. End of deal, Kovalchuk back to Florida and Grossman hangs out for a while to see if AEG will allow the contract.

We all know that Leiweke will lie to the press for good PR, like saying it isn’t about the cash but the cap. Maybe it is about the cash and AEG said no since they know they have to pay Doughty huge money and possibly Jack. Adding Kovalchuk would make 4 players making big cash, remember that Smyth has a large cap hit, but the actual cash is less the final 2 years.

This would also explain the different rumors from "sources". Maybe the sources in Dean's camp say the deal is done and the sources from AEG are saying the deal is dead.

Great article. If they really are that far apart in negotiations, and if Kovy is still holding to the $10m a year demand, then it's time to end this and move on. I really want Kovy but that is way too far our of our price range without sacrificing our future.

If they're that far apart after 2 weeks, it's probably just not meant to be.

I think it would be best now if Dean moved on and started working on Doughty's extension. There is nothing to be gained in having talks with an agent that will not negotiate if that is indeed the case. The longer Kovalchuk and his wife stew the better it is for the Kings.

after argueing for 14 days they are probably saying and agreeing to the same thing, just to tired and combative to realize it. This happens with married couples sometimes
