Rangers #11 Prospect

Jumbo seems a little late on making the new poll so I figured i'd take initiative. Hagelin wins last round on his strong NCAA credentials and is slotted as a very probable NHL 3rd line winger. His selection means that Chad Johnson, last year's #10 has dropped in the ranking despite seeing unexpected NHL action this year.

NYR Prospect Ranking

Top Prospects

1. Derek Stepan (C) - Drafted in the 2nd Round of the 2008 Draft
2. Chris Kreider (LW) - Drafted in the 1st Round of the 2009 Draft
3. Evgeny Grachev (LW) - Drafted in the 3rd Round of the 2008 Draft
4. Ryan McDonagh (D) - Drafted in the 1st Round by Montreal in the 2007 Draft.
5. Mats Zuccarello Aasen (F) - Undrafted, Signed by NYR in 2010.
6. Dylan Mcilrath (D) - Drafted in the 1st Round in the 2010 Draft
7. Ethan Werek (F) - Drafted in the 2nd Round in the 2009 Draft
8. Dale Weise (F) - Drafted in the 4th Round in the 2008 Draft.
9. Christian Thomas (F) - Drafted in the 2nd Round in the 2010 Draft.
10. Carl Hagelin (LW) - Drafted in the 6th Round in the 2007 Draft

Second Tier

11?

Added; Yogan narrowly over Byers

Nominated; Dane Byers, Roman Horak

We're into the second tier of prospects now, last year's #11 was Ilkka Heikkinen.

Johnson is being underrated here. He played at the NHL level and had success. I know it was limited action but producing at the NHL level is by far the most important thing for a player.

Going with Valentenko still. Add Byers.

Valentenko and Sauer seem to have some things in common--being injury prone defensemen. I might be more inclined towards Sauer if I didn't have the feeling that Torts just doesn't like him for whatever reason. Talent wise-projection wise they're about at the same place.

had a tough time choosing between the two, but I went with Valentenko over Johnson. He probably should be higher considering he's a front runner to make the team next season amongst the prospects.

Add Horak.

Nigel Williams after that.

Johnson is one of the stranger looking dudes I've ever seen. Does he wear lipstick?

Ugh, Nigel Williams. Talk about a prospect who has regressed. He's not even a good AHL defenseman at this point. Unless he shows some BIG improvements this year, he'll never have any type of NHL career.

Pashin has done more in one camp than Sauer has done in 3 seasons.

Add Kundratek.

Incorrect. Sauer has been one of the better defensemen for the Rangers top affiliate for a long time.

Pashnin is an unheralded 7th round pick who was credited for a good mini-camp, we dont know if he will ever even come to North America, and whos top upside is projected to be a 3rd pairing dman.

I hope people do not compromise this poll by voting based on a hype from one week. the Matt Maccaronne effect tends to backfire.

Now that is incorrect. He stated he wants very much to play in the NHL after his contract expires next season. Why would he even come to a camp like that if he had no intention of coming over? He sounds like a very interesting prospect thats for sure.

I agree, I think he is interesting, and he has stated and given indications that he does want to come over.

But there is a small chance that he does not, there always will be with foreigners, and I think that a prospect who has to jump through a few hurdles to hit his upsides, which is no higher than the defenseman that Sauer is right now, shouldnt be ranked higher.

If Renney were the coach Sauer would be a ranger right now, and people would judge his value a little differently I am thinking. Maybe iin 3 years when Sauer and others are gone, there will be a spot on D for Pashnin. But for now I am going with the better player, and that is Sauer.

But Sauer plays against scrubs sometimes in the AHL, not many great great talents there like in the KHL. I know many here won't give the league credit but I think you have to admit the talent level there is a lot higher than the AHL. Pashin playing with X-NHLers learning his trade, I like it.

I do agree with your point about Renney, I think Sauer would have gotten more games in atleast by this point if Tom was still running the show.

Went with Sauer. Add Byers who is so close to making it in the NHL. He should definitely be a qualified 4th liner.

Maccaronne...the man who clearly outplayed Boyle but received no respect. Shame.

I went Johnson. Add Horak
