That was the day I started the name "Johnny Malkin". I mentioned it on a call in show, and on the official forums I circulated it around for the last 2 years (they weren't useless back then) and it caught on.

Oddly enough, the same situation played itself out last year as well, and he once again ran down the clock doing basically nothing (I think he ended up shooting wide, while Kessel watched in disappointment). That was around the time that the name caught on like wildfire.

That Newfie John thing is BS... the name has been around much longer. It didn't start on these forums.
Sure ya did.

I gave credit to Newfie John for the first use of "Johnny Malkin" and so I'm going to take credit for the first Mitchell-Malkin comparison. Maybe I started it.

Basicly a poor mans Malkin
Replace poor man with "Starving African Man" and you're correct.

I tried changing Johnny Malkin, to Johnny Malkin, it caught on for a few threads, but that was it.

LOL i found it hilarious that I was trying to find out why people called him Johnny Malkin while I have the NYR game playing in the background, then I try YT some of his dangles, couldnt find any, then I check out his stats on TSN, then he scores LOL!

What are the odds? Can't be that good.

Anyone have links to a video showing what mitchell was doing in his first game with kessel? I don't remember if I saw that game.

I miss his toe drags. His terrible toe drags with the super-long wind-up.

Basically because he tried to make plays like Malkin, even though he's John Mitchell. And he scored a shoot-out goal, and it seemed to stick from there.

Not sure who it was but it was in a GDT and it just caught on immediately. He tried to dangle so many people and just coughed the puck up every time.

Me and my buddies watch trade deadline every year. The last 3 years we've had a bottle of (cheap) champagne ready, just in case.

Needless to say, we finally cracked it the second Johnny was traded.

Rangers fan asking... what changed in his game last year to drop to just 3 points in 23 games and a -7, which was what his +/- was in 60 games the year before?

He's looked good in his few games up this season so far.

If he matures and finds his game for the Rangers, good for him.

That being said, I do not miss him but I do miss the ****-fits we would throw on here when he tried to pull out his SICK MOVEZ out of his "repertoire."

Well the question is who is he playing with? He cannot create things on his own. In fact, he cannot create things at all. Maybe he's changed but he really needed to figure out his role in the NHL. Which would be to provide energy, good forechecking, good defence. He simply did not have the skill to make slick passes, take on players 1-on-1. Keep in mind, if he's been in there for 3 games, well Tim Brent scored in the first two games he played with us. Doesn't mean he could keep it up
