Nothing wrong with his work ethic last season though. Gordon, somewhat surprisingly, really seemed to develop a liking for him after Schremp acclimated to his ways. This wouldn't have happened if Schremp was just loafing around.

The USA should be able to a lot better than Schremp. If he's playing on the second line at the Olympics in Sochi I'd be shocked. Absolutely shocked.

And then I'd laugh when some goon from Slovakia rocks him in the first 5 minutes of the first game and he's out for the rest of the tournament.

My prediction is more or less based on fate, fractions do not factor in so much.

Um... So the guy has great eye-hand coordination and can pull off trick shots alone on breakaways? STOP THE PRESSES THIS IS A GUY IS A REAL LIFE WALKING MIRACLE! Better get his stall ready in the dressing room.

Are you going to tell me Robert Nilsson is a lock for the Swedish team too?

Rob Schremp rules, glad to have him back. In the second half of the year he was our best offensive player (perhaps not saying much) and he played very well overall. He'll end up with 50-60 if he the current depth chart holds up and he slots between Bailey and Okposo.

Rob Schremp is 24
Paul Stastny is 24 (and younger than Schremp)
Joe Pavelski is 26

If you honestly think Rob Schremp will somehow be the 2nd best center amongst these three in four years, I got some oceanfront property in Nevada to sell ya.

OK, on NHL.Com's olympic roster, it shows Stastny on team USA. NVM.

I honestly think so, but hey don't shoot the messenger. I think he'll also be a good fit on the wing if it comes to that.

It's just semantics, but I purposely didn't the word best in describing Schremp.

We may very well have been watching different games, but I remember watching several where I had the impression that Schremp was the Islander doing the most "generating". Once he got comfortable and figured out what was going on in Gordon's Islanderworld, he started to display the puckcarrying skills and offensive instincts that are not taught. You have them or you don't, and he's got them.

In any case, shortly before the season-ending injury, there were several games where he was arguably the Islanders' most creative and offensively effective player. In addition, he displayed a certain acumen on the PP that other guys here just simply did not.

We'll have to see what comes of it over the long - or short - run...

He can grow up and mature all he wants. Until he starts playing hockey in all 3 zones, he'll be a fringe NHL'er at best. He's a stopgap on a rebuilding Isles team.

Congrats to Rob. I for one have been pulling for him since he was drafted. I was upset he didnt last with the Oil but who can blame him under MacT.

I think a 40pt season isnt a stretch for him last year and will be following him closely.

I agree with this post. He and Comeau generated a lot of offense during one stretch of the season when the rest of the team couldn't bury the puck. I'm in the minority in this but I'd like to see him get consistent 2nd line center and 2nd unit PP time and see what he can do. A 55 point season is not out of the question. I agree he needs to get stronger in the other 2 zones, but offense and creativity have been something the Isles have been lacking for a long time and he can generate both.

IMO Bailey looked the best playing on the wing so that opens up the 2nd center spot for Schremp with Neilsen being a perfect fit for the third center.

Schremp is one of the most offensively gifted players on long island right now. He just doesn't know what to do with his raw talent. That's why he can skate around during practice pulling off ridiculous moves, but in a game he's a complete non-factor. Risky signing, but I see him having a huge upside.

Isles were tied for 5th in the league in shootout wins last year. Trying for #1. Schremp, Neilsen, and Moulson were among the league leaders last year. They added Parenteau, who was 3 for 3 in the few games he played as a rookie last year. And you know Tavares' skills.

Now if they can just get to the shootout....

I am glad to see the Isles able to keep him. He showed a lot of growth last year in all 3 zones. I hope he continues to show the effort and growth this year. If he does, the Isles have found lightning in a bottle again...

Robbie Shremp is a supremely talented guy who has yet to realize he has to be more than one-dimensional. Especially when he isn't the most talented guy in the league anymore. When he was in Edmonton, I so wanted him to get it because I think he has the tools to be 50-60 point guy in this league.

I hope he has a good year on the Island.

You're American and you don't know this? Then again, Statsny was invisible in the Olympics and did basically nothing.
