Idaho fans getting a chance to meet and greet with the new Steelhead coach.

Quote:
We’ve all seen them on television. The team hires a new coach and the TV cameras get nice pictures of the coach being introduced at a press conference. Well, the Steelheads are doing it a little differently. We’re not introducing the new bench boss of the reigning ECHL National Conference champion in a conference room in the middle of the afternoon when you can’t be there. We’re doing it in the evening … when you can attend and be among the first to meet the new head coach of the Idaho Steelheads.

Beskorowany article

“He had a great season,” said Stars Director of Scouting and Player Development Les Jackson. “He played on a team where he got a lot of work, so that was a good situation. He’s got some good material, I suspect that he’ll be a good pro.”

“I’m one more year wiser coming in and I know a little bit more what to expect,” said Beskorowany, one year after seeing his first NHL pre-season action. “Not many things have changed over the past year. Mike Valley’s still around to help me out, which is good, and it’s just given me that one extra year to kind of develop myself and get better and stronger for this year.”

Vincour article

“Tommy had a great season,” said Stars Director of Scouting and Player Development Les Jackson. “He started in Edmonton and ended up in Vancouver with (head coach) Don Hay and I just think the experience he got there was awesome. Don Hay is well-respected at that level, he prepares guys for pro and Tomas made some great strides. I suspect he’s going to move right into Austin and be an impact player there for us. He’s a great kid, got a great set of hands. There’s some things he needs to develop, which is fairly normal, but for the most part, he’s on the right track. He’s got the right attitude and he’s hungry.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets some games (in the NHL this season),” Jackson said. “He’s a pretty talented kid. You hate to say that because it puts expectations on him. But (Stars scout Dennis Holland) and the guys in the field did a great job with him, that was a good pick-up.”

Wow, those are bold words for Vincour. A year after he got drafted to be expected to get some games in the NHL.

jackson thinks all his pics had great seasons.

I thought I saw this article.

"Tyler was a reach in the second. Many scouting services had him in the fifth or sixth round. I listened to our guys who love big goalies even though the big club has never had one here. Besko's first year after the draft was a near disaster. He struggled some last year as well although he managed to get a poor team in the playoffs. Nevertheless, his future is far from clear and that is why we took Campbell instead of the obvious pick Fowler. That and the fact since I never expected Cam to fall, I never really paid attention when I watched him."

I'm surprised Scott McColloch(sp?) hasn't signed yet. There were several articles about him being a fan favorite in Austin.

I'm inclined to say no he isn't signed unless they did it since June 20th and didn't release anything about it.

Former Colorado College hockey player Scott McCulloch enjoyed a long run in the American Hockey League playoffs, but like so many former Tigers, he is unsure where he’ll be playing this fall.

McCulloch, who completed his first full pro season with a goal and two assists in the AHL’s Calder Cup Finals, is now a free agent. In all, 10 other former Tigers under an NHL contract who played in either the AHL or NHL may be on the move when the free agency period starts July 1.

“Hopefully something will come along,” McCulloch said.

...

Texas Stars coach Glen Gulutzan coached McCulloch during his 26-game stint with the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers at the end of the 2008-09 season and brought him onto the AHL expansion team’s roster on a 25-game contract that kept being extended.

American news from yesterday....seems kinda over the top to me.

Quote:
Chris Whitley, the Americans number one goaltender last year, will be doing a live show Saturday, July 24, at the open house at the Allen Event Center. Whitley will call in at noon to talk with Tommy Daniels, the voice of the Americans, and reveal his plans for next year. Fans unable to attend the open house will be able to listen to the show live on www.sportsjuice.com.

The netminder had an exceptional rookie season with the Americans in 2009-10. Whitley set three CHL playoff records, won his first game played in the American Hockey League, earned numerous accolades and took the Americans all the way to the Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup Finals.
http://allenamericans.com/articles/n...?articleid=368

Open house will be from 10 AM to 4 PM this Saturday.

66 games and they can't find room for Allen to play Fort Wayne, Dayton, Evansville, Missouri, or Quad City. So in an 18 team league....you don't even play 5 of the possible 17 teams for you play. Makes perfect sense.

Whitley back for the Americans...

Quote:
Netminder Chris Whitley called in to a live show today at the Allen Event Center to announce his much-anticipated decision to re-sign with Allen for the 2010-11 season.

“Allen was always the team I was going to return to if I didn't pursue my teaching career. I had a few offers in Europe, but I didn't get an offer that was better than Allen in my opinion,” Whitley said. “The decision was also made easy when some key guys re-signed like Graham, Yellow, Nino and Tobias, so that was another thing that factored into my decision.”

Americans trade Tyler Wooddisse's rights to Mississippi for David Simoes.

http://allenamericans.com/articles/n...?articleid=373

Quote:
The Allen Americans acquired the rights to former Mississippi defenseman David Simoes for the 2010-11 season in exchange for Tyler Wooddisse’s rights.

“David is a solid individual. He will be a great guy in our locker room and community,” Americans Head Coach and General Manager Dwight Mullins said. “As a player, he brings an unbelievable amount of grit and attitude that is hard to play against. Like Britt Dougherty, he is sure to be a fan favorite.”

More on the new Idaho coach from ESPN..

http://espn.go.com/blog/dallasstars/...medium=twitter

Quote:
Sauter had spent the past three seasons with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. He was an assistant coach with the 2007-08 team that won the Memorial Cup and then took over as head coach for the 2008-09 season. He posted a 91-45-8 record during his two regular seasons at the helm, but was let go after the Chiefs got knocked out in the first round of last season’s playoffs.

Sauter spent a majority of his professional playing career with the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League. He was a nine-time All-Star and twice was the CHL’s Defenseman of the Year.

So being a Mudbug fan, I obviously read the Shreveport Times. Interesting article today about the entire league still not giving coaches "recruiting" rules...

Quotes for the stuff talking about the league rules...
Quote:
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs head coach Scott Muscutt is deep in recruiting season, but building a team for the 2010-11 Central Hockey League season is quite the challenge.

Muscutt, and the other 17 CHL coaches are still unaware of some incredibly important things:

The salary cap.

The roster limit.

The veteran limit.

What they do know is that the CHL season begins Oct. 15. Until the players' union and the CHL come to terms on these issues, recruiting is the great unknown.
Pretty ridiculous IMO not to tell the coaches by now the rules.

Full article for anyone who wants to read it...

Allen re-sign another member of their team...

Quote:
ALLEN, Texas – Brandon Straub became the seventh player from the inaugural team to re-sign with the Americans today.

“Brandon’s return is a great addition to our defensive core. He will be a big leader for us this year,” Americans Head Coach and General Manager Dwight Mullins said.

Straub was one of five Allen players called up to the American Hockey League last year. The Colorado Springs native held down the blue line for the Americans, earning 185 penalty minutes and going +8 in 58 games during the regular season last year. He had seven points (2g-5a=7) in that time and assisted twice in the 20-game run for the Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup.

Texas signs Ludwig...

Quote:
The Texas Stars announced on Thursday that defenseman Tyler Ludwig has agreed to terms for the 2010-11 season.

Ludwig turned pro after a four-year career at Western Michigan University, joining the Stars for the final seven games of the regular season. Over his short AHL stint, Ludwig was scoreless with four penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, he spent four years with Western Michigan University, scoring 16 goals and dishing out 54 assists for 70 points in 152 NCAA games. During his junior and senior seasons, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound defender led the Broncos in points by a defenseman. The Colleyville, TX native posted a +12 rating as a senior and finished his NCAA career a +5 overall. Ludwig is the twin brother of Texas Stars defenseman Trevor Ludwig and the son of former NHLer and Dallas Stars defenseman Craig Ludwig.

Lampl re-signs with Idaho...

Quote:
Defenseman Cody Lampl has signed a contract with the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads, head coach and director of hockey operations Hardy Sauter announced on Monday.

Lampl, 24, became the first player with Idaho roots to play for the Steelheads last season. He was born in Pennsylvania, but grew up in Ketchum, ID, and calls the Wood River Valley his home. His family still lives in the Ketchum area.

“It helped me so much as a rookie (last season) to be surrounded by friends and family,” Lampl said. “It really helped me get comfortable and helped me not to be overwhelmed in my first pro season.”

Idaho re-signs 2 more from last season's squad...

Quote:
Idaho Steelheads head coach and director of hockey operations Hardy Sauter announced Wednesday that two more players – both members of the 2010 National Conference championship team – have signed contracts for the 2010-2011 season.

Forwards Adam Huxley and Matt McKnight are the seventh and eighth players to sign contracts with Idaho for the upcoming season and all eight skated for the Steelheads last season.

“Obviously, I’m aware of what last year’s team did on the ice,” said Sauter, who is heading into his first season as Idaho’s head coach. “But, in doing my research, I’ve also learned about the quality and character of the players as individuals and I want to retain that core.”
