Langenbrunner, Salvador, Prospect/Pick

What defenseman can this package net the Devils?

Langenbrunner-Top 6 winger that can net 20 goals and 60 points. Only on the books for this season at a cap hit of $2.8 million.

Salvador-Good #5, sometimes top-4 d-man, who is on the books ths season and the next one at a cap hits of $2.9 million.

Pick/Prospect-Obviously these depend on the guy that is coming back in the deal. The only untouchables are Tedenby, Josefson, and Urbom. Eckford (24) is a guy that is NHL ready right now but will likely not make the team because of how many NHL ready d-men we have. He's big and mobile with a good shot. I'd like to move him to give him a chance.

So, any ideas?

If anything, can you just post some of the available top 4 defensemen on your team?

Nah, the whole point of Bieksa would be a salary dump, so this is way too much salary coming back. Langenbrunner and a pick/prospect maybe...but definitely no to Salvador. He makes $600,000 less than Bieksa and is a worse defenseman.

No thanks. Too much salary for a guy that only brings a big shot.

How about Langenbrunner for Bieksa straight up? Both are free agents after the season and you guys gain 1 mil in cap space.

If NJ were interested in a younger forward with some history as college teammate of Parise, how about Buffalo's Drew Stafford? He's also in final year of his contract, has a little more size than Langenbrunner and is 12 years younger. Cap hit is $500K less.

Of course, if it's veteran defensemen the Devils want, I'd be more than happy to unload Rivet or Montador but, unfortunately, Sabre management think they're both too precious to let go.

That would certainly be something the Canucks would have to take a long, hard look at.

No thanks to Stafford. If the Devs are trading Langs, I'd rather have it be for a forward. If not, we can keep him. He is still a good top 6 winger.

He probably meant defenseman. Adding Salvador means you'll get less of a return. Langenbrunner and a 2nd would get you much more then with Salvador included. His contract is not so good.

A Bieska/Langs trade could work. However, I'm just curious. How exactly has Bieska been lately? I know he was injured for some time last year.

That's a deal the Canucks should definitely consider....problem is that I dont think it works on the cap. In order to retain Raymond, Bieksa (or a similar salaried dman) has to go with minimal salary coming back.

Yes, it might not alleviate the cap issue entirely, but other things can be done.

A top 9 of:

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Raymond-Kesler-Samuelsson
Malhotra-Hodgson-Langenbrunner

would be pretty difficult to match up against, to say the least.

I've been dreaming of this trade for months. Well, maybe just weeks -- it's been a slow off-season. As a Canucks fan, I would certainly want to take it, but would have to look at cap as we could very well fall $0.5-1 mil short of this working.

Edit: My dream of this trade died a little when we signed Malhotra for as much as we did, leaving little space to make the lineup below possible. You'll note it has Raymond at a, shall we say, optimistic signing, while Hansen is gone along with O'Brien (do you want him too?). It's quite possible that we'd have to ditch Alberts as well and bring in a min. salary dman.

Personally, I'd do all I could to make it work:

Quote:
FORWARDS
Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m)
Mason Raymond ($2.500m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Jamie Langenbrunner ($2.800m)
Manny Malhotra ($2.500m) / Cody Hodgson ($1.666m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($2.500m)
Rick Rypien ($0.550m) / Alexandre Bolduc ($0.500m) / Victor Oreskovich ($0.575m)
Joel Perrault ($0.510m)

DEFENSEMEN
Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Christian Ehrhoff ($3.100m)
Alexander Edler ($3.250m) / Keith Ballard ($4.200m)
Andrew Alberts ($1.050m) / Sami Salo ($3.500m)
/ Aaron Rome ($0.750m)

GOALTENDERS
Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) /Cory Schneider ($0.900m)

CARRY-OVER BONUS PENALTY: $90,000

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS
SALARY CAP: $59,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $59,975,000; BONUSES: $850,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $275,000

We could add Fraser and you could waive Alberts and that should save you around 500k.

They're looking to shed salary, not take on Brewer's disproportionate cap hit.

The Blues and Jersey aren't good trade partners to begin with.

would the Blues have any interest in taking Salvador back for a draft pick or a prospect?

Isn't Fraser an RFA? What kind of increase is he looking at?

Edit: Since Eckford is mentioned by the OP, how about something like Langenbrunner + Eckford for Bieksa + Hansen? Not sure if you need Hansen, or if you'd be looking for more.
