Yea gonna go with no.

One of the reason Kaberle may be dealt is because there's too much money on D. So you're solving that by adding 2M to the D.

Not to mention the Leafs take on 8M in salary.

It's a shame that you took a lot of time to type that up, because I stopped reading once I saw "Philadelphia Out: Lapierre".

No minors in the off season, trade is void due to Leafs being > 10% over the cap.

Actual trade, Timonen has a NMC, no guarantee he wants to go to the Leafs.

Boston trade looks much better because you added ins that were already their property... For them its basically Savard + 2 salary dump (Thomas + Ryder) for Gagne. From a salary cap point of view, that could be considered a great deal as dumping 8m of salary is quite hard. Look at what Ehrhoff got for a 5m dump last year... good example of salary dump trades... but that type of trade also could become on of the worst trades you ever see.

Leafs - deal makes no sense due to cap but if they could make it work, they get a steal. Timonnen and Savard for Kabs + Kul = huge steal in terms of skill added. Problem is there's no way they can fit that in right now and they would need to bury Ryder (which you can't do until after training camp) so the trade would be voided.

Philly - Thomas is probably viewed as a salary dump due to his contract. Kabs is an asset but he will likely make close to Timonen numbers after this year (if the Philly were able to resign him). Kabs is slightly better offensively but a lot worst defensively so a 1 for 1 swap there makes no sense... that pretty much makes the rest of the deal bad for them.

not sure why toronto would deal kaberle for a more expensive D man, plus add 8 million more to their payroll, while trading away a player the just resigned

seems like this whopper is a little undercooked, thats what happens when you have 12 year olds running the grills

OP.. if you wanted a whopper, why didn't you just go to a Burger King restaurant?

Your proposal is god-awful.

no way in hell toronto can afford that under the cap, and I dont believe MLSE is actually willing to stash enough money in the minors to make it work.

This trade very heavily favors TO. Savard and Timonen are better than either of the guys TO gives up. Taking Ryder doesn't make this a fair deal, it makes it one heck of a steal for TO.

Then by all means keep them, I don't really want Savard with his mushy brains and attitude issues signed until he's decrepit and Timonen is good but there's way too much money on Toronto's back-end

I think you got it the other way around, Timonen is better while Kaberle has more trade value. Timonen is the better player.

Time to fully convert this into a Kaberle vs Timonen thread? I'm with Team Timonen.

Savard hasn't had any attitude issues since he has been a Bruin by the way. He is still better than anyone in this trade, mushy brains or not. It is just a bad trade for Philly and Boston.

He is an effective shutdown D-man, I'd take that over an extra 5-10 points. Scoring is his secondary role.

I've never actually laughed out loud at a trade proposal, but I have to say this one made me laugh out loud.

1. Kaberle is not better than Timonen. I'd give the edge to Timonen, but Kaberle is better offensively. That said, Timonen is better defensively.

2. Flyers won't even consider acquiring Thomas unless Briere is going the other way, and even then, they better be getting Thomas+.

3. Philadelphia doesn't have "Lapierre," and they would probably never consider trading Laperriere.

4. This trade might actually make the Flyers worse.

5. This trade doesn't even help solve the cap problem.

The Flyers have Pronger, Carle, and Meszaros. They don't need more offense on the blueline.
For the Flyers, Timonen is most definitely the better d-man. Kaberle - Carle/Coburn/Meszaros would most likely give me nightmares.
