Leafs remove all offers to Bill Sweatt

Burke announced that he has removed all offers to Bill Sweatt. How does this make the Versteeg trade look now?

Edit: http://mapleleafs.nhl.com/index.html but I don't know for how long. It is on the main page of the teams website.

i still believe that you win the trade if you get the best player in the deal.

The fact that it was announced on the website leads me to believe it's just a ploy to put pressure on him. If he doesn't sign he's an idiot, how many more teams are going to put you on a faster track to the show?

He claims that he wants to become a UFA and test the market, and play for a team that will allow him to play in the NHL next year. Your not going to get a better chance than with Toronto to play in the NHL next year. His agent sure sounds like an ass.

Leafs need help offensively NOW, and Hawks need cap relief and potential good players for the future. win-win as of now...but who wins in the end, time will tell. Sweatt or no Sweatt...decent deal for both teams...though if i`m burke, i don`t make that deal unless it`s for Sharp (minus Sweatt). it will look real good for the Leafs if Dido, Paradis, and Stalberg don`t pan out though...but that can be said the other way as well if they do.

What a terrible mistake Sweatt just made.

Really, though Sweatt was always more of a throw-in in the trade.

Yup. There's a reason Toronto is dominating the UFA class of Euro/College free agents. It's a great chance to get a chance to play right away. I honestly don't know what Sweatt is thinking.

Exactly what I told Leaf fans at time of trade

Kid wants an easy route to NHL and a 1 way deal thus why he will wait til he becomes a FA,,,, I hope he doesn't get his way and is forced to accept a 2 way deal after he gets no interest by GM's on his terms

If it would have been Sharp you would have been sending Gunnarrson , Stalberg and a better prospect then either Paradis or Dido to Hawks

You really have to point the finger at Glen Sather and the Gilroy contract.

Sweatt and his agent saw that and they want the same thing (1 way deal + Straight trip to NHL)

FA doesn't guarentee big bucks the way it used to, and he's gonna be labeled as a money-first guy the rest of his career. Nice.

Agreed with those saying he made a big mistake. What other team is going to give him the shot that the Leafs could to make the NHL? And paired with the fact that he looks like he's just trying to get paid probably says something about his character for sure. That being said, there could be valid reasoning behind this move, on a personal level. Regardless, I still think Toronto wins the trade as well.

I fail to understand why someone who didn't even register a PPG at the college level last year feels he is entitled to an NHL contract without earning his due in the AHL.

Bozak was more highly thought of out of college and he spent time in the AHL. Bobby Ryan spent time in the AHL despite being a #2 overall pick. Why should Sweatt be any different? I hope nobody gives him what he's looking for, let him go play in the KHL if he's got that large of an ego.

Still plenty of NHL caliber talent out in the market, and this guy's agent thinks that he'll be able to choose his club?

Best of luck to ya.

He won't get a 1-way contract... not a chance.

There are still good remaining FA who have ACTUALLY played in the NHL.

This kid can go **** himself. Bye bye.

I can't believe a Leafs fan hasn't said "No Sweatt off my back" yet.

I know its bad but I just had to say it.
