Toronto letting Sweatt walk.

I don't know much about the kid but HF's scouting report says hes unbelievably fast, can feature a top 6 role in the future, and can make plays at high speeds. He sounds like our type of guy, speedy, young, talented. Should we be interested?

ya know you put a duck on skate he could be fast too... Why do you think they let him go? In the Sun article, Burke said that he had to sign 50 contracts, so it means that Sweat doesn't even fit in the 50 contracts..

He apparently wants too much $$. Agent said the Leafs gave him a "generous offer" but he wants more. How's your top 6 shaping up? Any open spots?

the Kosty-Plek-Cammy is stuck, it left a spot on the Gomez-Gionta line if Pouliot isn't able to find his game..

Kick the tire with him.. If he dosen`t ask too much, then sign him to a 2 year deal.

Billy Sweatt?

Couldn't even get a PPG season after 4 seasons in the NCAA. Pass.

To get a guy with his speed and ok size without using a draft pick is worth it, IMO.

Sour grapes comment from Burke. He made a generous offer first, remember?

Yeah I agree 100% thats how I see it, its a 0 risk high reward move, we can afford him and worst case scenario hes a career AHLer. I mean taking a chance on him isn't a bad move at all, and he can't be worse that Fischer

Seems to me, that he and his agent are hardly making the right choices here......I mean he could play alot of games with the Leafs, and start making some serious $$$ but instead, he seems to be coming off like he can call the shots?

He is fast and he's coming off a good year at CC but we don't have any room for him, we are full of forwards currently.

Or maybe they are no more impressed with Leafs management than you or I are?

Ok thanks. I made an error by including Lefebvre who's junior career isn't over yet.

We have room for another forward, and we might lose or have to trade Trotter and/or Carle anyway. Also, a couple of the 45 guys we do have don't really have that much potential.

maybe so, but for a kid trying to break into the league??? There are 30 teams, and 22-23 spots on each one, he should count himself lucky that he is being considered good enough to play in the league...period...I never like to hear about some young gun, and his agent hold teams hostage...not a good way to start a pro career in my eyes...

He didn't want to sign with the Cup champs, or the 29th place team, because he wants more money than they want to pay....

I still want a nice cushion (maybe 3 contracts from the limit), and we still need D men.

Depends on what he wants.

Chicago probably knew he wanted too much, so they got rid of him.

Never seen the guy play, but according to his stats, there has been 0 progression since his freshman year to his senior year.

And if he can't even make the leafs roster.. pass.

Well moneywise, if Chicago AND Toronto let the kid walk....chances he'll review his options and then ask for less money. Then you grab him. Possible that he asked a lot, and while Chicago didn't want him for that reason, he thought that another team would be ready to pay....But to be rejected by 2 teams, it was to be a wakeup call.

Clearly, I don't believe this kid will ever be anything else than a bottom 6 forward. Tons of speed to go with an average hockey sense especially offensively. But if we have room......I say why not. Not going to lose any sleep over it though.

The Hawks selected Sweatt six spots ahead of future Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban in 2007, a year the Leafs didn’t have a pick until the third round, selecting Dale Mitchell.

Nice to hear our scouting staff get praise instead of people *****ing who we missed out on.

Edit: Also, wouldn't mind Sweatt. Just trade a forward prospect to another team in return for defensive prospect and you'll have room.

He's an RFA, so they'd get compensation.

The leafs don't have a problem with money, so this kid must be asking a lot.

At least the Versteeg trade doesn't seem too one sided to the Leafs anymore. Leafs still win it imo but it seems more even now (Sweatt is a better prospect than Paradis and Didomenico imo).
