Nice! A little thinline Tele style. I was about to ask if that was an Xaviere but now that I've quoted you I see that is from Rondo. Is that an SX, Douglas or Agile?

I have an Agile Les Paul and I like more than the Epiphone I used to have. The thing is heavy as all hell though (which is a good thing).

I'm pumped about the Squier '51. I've heard a lot of good things about them for the money. The humbucker has a coil split. I love the color I got too (sunburst).

Are you saying the pots are noisey? When you turn the volume or tone control does it crackle? If so, that is probably a broken or dirty pot. It will cost you like $5 to replace if you can use a soldering iron. It could also just be a loose connection. I suck with mechanical stuff and electronics and I've repaired my own stuff. I won't dare try to do any fretwork or anything critical like that.

EDIT: DIdn't realize we had this many guitar players here. I know Captain Ron plays. Maybe that is what he has been doing the last 12 months?

I'm not a great player by any means, but I can play a few chords and know a couple of not so smooth solos. But honestly, I have no idea what these pots are you speak of. Yes, it does crackle when I turn the volume and tone knobs. Well, I think the tone not so much, mostly the volume.

Potentiometers (pots) are used to control the signal between the pickups and the output jack. Both volume and tone use the same kind of pots, but the difference is tone pots use capacitors to effect tone.

All you likely need is some contact cleaner. Get it down into the pots and turn the knobs. That should clear up the crackles. If not, you will have replace the pots. Very cheap and easy if you know how to solder.

lol! The pots are "potentiometers". They are the little electrical pieces under your volume and tone nobs that increase and decrease the signal going to the amp from the pickups. If they are crackling, the pot is is either dusty or broken. I'm guessing it is broken. Dusty pots happen in old amps and stuff and I doubt your guitar is that old. If you don't have a soldering iron, take it to a guitar guy to fix it. Shouldn't cost you more than $20 bucks ($5 for part and the rest for labor). If you do have a soldering iron, just buy a CTS or Gibson (brand) linear pot w/ short shaft and solder the wire back on the way you take them off the broken one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potentiometer

And I'm not a good player either. Still fun though!

It is a great photo, one of the best avatars I've ever seen.

It's like one of those tests; look at this picture and tell me what's going on.

Actually, when my wife taught HS creative writing, she had a book of obscure and interesting drawings, and she would show the dwg to the class and their assignment was to write what was going on. Either start or end with the picture.

The one I got is a Douglas. Its so cheap that I don't mind replacing the hardware if its flimsy, like the tuners or something. For now I'm probably going to be playing it through my bass amp until I get a proper guitar amp.

Lot's of good practice amps out there for cheap. I've got a Vox DA5 (actually two) and a V15 and they're all pretty good. No roaring Marshall or cleans exactly like a Fender or Vox tube cleans, but pretty good. Pretty good.

The V15 is a tube hybrid DA5 is solid state, but there are more than a few small tube amps reasonably priced these days. Note, I did not like the AC4 when I got it.

What are you looking at getting?

I would have called that one fair as well...especially when I saw a few specks of chalk fly up with that one bounce... Now if the team can spring for a better camera angle...that homer announcer would have shut up about that call...or is that really asking too much??? I think that announcer would actually blame his wife's bad cooking on the umps as well...

Ideally I'd like to get something with tubes. I like the idea of having a hybrid, I'll look into it...
