About the same talent??? Kostitsyn couldn't skate his way out of a paper bag if it was in the defensive zone and hasn't scored 30 goals at any level of hockey.
2M for 5 more goals?? No thanks.

Because it's one thing to want to get rid of Matt Walker, but it's another to trade away a young forward with lots of offensive potential. You want to have fair value for A.Kost even if you're getting Gagné, so that means getting a warm body in exchange for him.

Atleast 5 goals and a competent hockey playier. Worth the two million.

Would be nice to have a top-2 line not playing with only two players again.

I'm shocked at what Philly got back. Gagne is worth a lot more than that.

Yzerman has done an excellent job the last few months. And to think we could have had him.

Gagné is 30 years 5.25 million --> UFA
17 goal 23 assists in 59 games
AK 25 years 3.25 --> RFA
15 goals 18 assists in 58 games

I prefer AK over Gagné
Gagné missed
36 games --> 2002-2003
57 games --> 2007-2008
24 games --> 2009-2010

AK
23 games --> 2009-2010

You are concerned about 5 on 5 and want to get rid of Hamrlik? He was top ten amongst NHL d-men in 2008 - 2009 in even strength points. He recorded more points than any other Habs' d-man since 1993 in these past playoffs and most of those were even strength. I wonder how he did that after being benched as much as you seemingly like to imply.

Colby Armstrong would be okay but at the expense of someone else.

Back to Gagne. lol Um, he would have been nice but it's not a bad idea to see if snaps out of his string of injuries. Afterall, he will be UFA.

Doesn't speak French, so he was never interviewed.

Bykov doesn't speak English, but was interviewed for the coaching spot.

I wonder what Steve Y would of done to this team.

Tampa looks better and better with each of his moves...absolute steal by the lightning.

hmm conflicting accounts right there lol. But I'm pretty sure gagner is saying it just because it's the right thing to say.

Not much more than Gauthier, I bet.

The Bolts had a lot more "slack" in their roster this year than the Habs did. Not quite Habs-in-2009, but they had the room to make some moves whereas the Habs set up their core last year.

Likewise their management and coaching staff was pretty much set, whereas Yzerman had free reign to name who he liked.

The mediots are such hypocrites. They constantly whine that the Habs don't have enough French players, but these French players are mostly the ones who don't wanna come here, but the mediots don't whine to them for not coming. No, they kiss their *** until their face turn brown so they can have interviews and exclusives.

Think of the crap the Flyers got for Gagne, what the hell could the Habs get for Hamrlik? Probably no takers.

Thing is, if Gagné was truly interested in coming here, we could have him without giving up assets next July, and by then we'll have the necessary space.

Well that depends on when they were going to trade Hamrlik. If they acquire Gagné, then they'll get no takers, or almost more crap than that. If they did before, they might have gotten something like Matt Walker.

I wasn't really interested in Gagné, just thought it was funny he had interest in Montréal.

Gagné used to be a great player, but concussions slowed him down a lot. It's an interesting gamble by the Lightning, but I doubt it pays.

So I go for a nap, wake up and find out that Tampa Bay has become one of the most promising organisations this year.

Gagne or not, the reality we are facing is that we are yet again a cap spending team with a borderline playoff team

let's see if PG has it in him to take advantage of the devils situation, fingers crossed

The team went the farthest it ever has since 1993. Maybe the results this coming year will disappoint, but right now they have had more success than some of us remember. So right now you cannot call them a "borderline playoff team".

Regardless, Gagne can be had for free next summer when the Habs have actual cap space.

Some of these "fans" couldn't accept the fact that AK's injury slowed him down. Imagine with Gagne...with him it's not whether or not he'll get injured, it's when will he get injured and for how long.

One of Pleky or Gomez will be stuck with AK on his line, sorry haters.

Apparently Gauthier has more faith in Pouliot and Kostitsyn then I do.

Funny how much one decent playoff can raise a player's stock so drastically in fan's opinions.
