Is anyone excited for Linus Omark?

08 season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skWH9lZkgVU

09 season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szWQPoOH2Rw

10 season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7uCLxJW1bQ

Small guy, but very hard on the puck..

Does he make the team? If so, how many points will he get rookie season?

Leaf fan coming in peace.

I really like his skills and being Swedish there is also that responsibility factor. Usually Swedish players are good at the both end of the ice.

He reminds of young Sergei Samsonov.

I've heard that comparison.....another one I heard is swedish version of Patrick Kane.

I'm super excited to see if his game translates to North America.

The kid has skill and some feistiness to his game.

I've liked Omark for a long time now. Hes obviously has skill and can skate, but hes also gritty and does quality work in the corners. He appears to be a high strung player that will agitate the opposition as well. For a little Swede, he is made for the North American game. I guarantee Omark will have a career in the NHL because this is a player that you can slot on any line yet has the offensive instincts to be a top six player. His stock is going to rise as soon as people see him play. Other than having a bit of an attitude I can't believe some of the people on this board comparing him to Schremp. Omark has the same skill level but can skate and isn't allergic to the corners or carrying the puck over the offensive blueline. Wait and see, he'll be a fan favorite and his offensive stats will be pure bonus. I really hope he makes the club out of camp.

I like Omark, but I have a feeling he'll get shafted ala Schremp style.

Not because they share similar youtube abilities, but because come training camp, he'll just be outplayed by other players. In Omarks case, he'll be going against Penner, Hemsky, MPS, Hall, Eberle, etc. for winger positions. It'll be tough for him to crack the roster in a top-6 role that suits him.

I love his abilities and willingness to go to the dangerous areas. Which may play in his favor come September.

Either way, I'm excited to see him come over this season as well.

IMO he has a very good chance to make the team. I'm excited to how well his game translates, and how his willingness to go into the dirty areas to make plays shows up.

He definitely has the skill set and speed to play in the NHL, but it will be the 'responsibility' factor that secures him a spot in the league.

I am. He also has a Crosby-esque ability to come out of puck battles with his very strong legs.

I really hope he makes the team straight out of camp. I have a feeling he's going to be our diamond in the rough.

I'm a big fan of Omark. He will have to play lights out in TC but I really hope he makes the team.

If he gets outplayed by other players in training camp, how do you figure he get's "shafted"?

I feel like Omark doesn't get enough credit on these boards. He's not hyped up like MPS or Eberle, but he's a better player right now than they are.

Omark is a very annoying player both for your own team but more so for the opposing team, he holds on to the puck forever, at the same time it´s very hard to steal the puck from him without causing a penalty. He is actually quite strong although he is tiny (strong legs). When I see him I always think this kid really got talent, but he could use his assets (speed, skating, skill) in a more constructive way.

He really chosed a bad time to come over to Edmonton, now he has to compete with Hall and MPS for a lw spot. He have to beat the odds to get a spot in the team this season.

I think if you ranked our prospects on "NHL-readiness" it would go

1. Omark
2. Eberle
3. Svensson
4. Hall

If you are ranking the players natural skill & potential, I think that list flips to the exact opposite. So that should make things interesting

Yep... I agree, that's probably pretty accurate.

As to the OP question... yes I'm excited as hell for Omark and the rest of the rookies.

After what seems like forever there is actually reason to be excited in Edmonton again. Getting a chance to see Hall/MPS/Eberle/Omark all have cracks at making the team this year is going to be a lot of fun. Honestly I don't really even care where the team finishes as long as we get a chance to see the future of the team play this season and develop and work together. I think it's a good time to be an Oiler fan... it feels like we're at a new beginning and it's all onwards and upwards from here. (Can't get any lower obviously )

IMO, you've got it absolutely backwards.

But I'm not judging based on experience in other leagues, I'm judging on their physical attributes. Bigger, stronger, faster and more physical. That's what matters most in the transition IMHO. How physically ready are they to the next step.

And that's Hall and Paajarvi over Eberle and Omark.

some would say MPS is the most ready. Omark has to be up there since hes older than the rest. im excited for the kids speed, grit and hands.

the Oilers are stupid if he's really an NHLer and they logjam him out.

impressions at TC will be interesting.

Omark and Eberle are going to surprise you in TC & pre-season I think. By NHL-readiness, it's more of a measure of development and whether or not they're ready to play with men.

Svensson might have the lead on Eberle. But Eberle is a year older and seems like possibly the most mentally mature out of the bunch to me.

In any case, it's a prediction, not a science, so you could be right

I'm definitely excited to see this guy play for us. Gives us some more scoring depth. I won't be surprised if he has better years than the big 3. Very underrated here in Edmonton.

I agree - he is our most NHL ready prospect. He could be one of our most exciting players - certainly the most creative, if his moves translate to the NHL. I am a big fan.

It will be interesting to see if he passes any of our other small forwards on the depth chart...hey where did they all go?

If Omark outplays Cogliano at camp/preseason, Cogs will be traded IMO. If Cogs outplays Omark, then Omark gets sent down. Should be a very interesting camp.
