6th dman???

So who is the 6th dman now? O'Donnell, Bartulis or Walker? They all have one way contracts and are all signed for next year. Too bad Holmgren immediately signs people to long extensions after a few good games and gets the team into cap trouble. ie. Lupul, and Bartulis, who may be an 8th dman now.

Didn't O'Donnell sign here because he didn't want a decreased role in LA? I bet he's not too happy now.

O'Donnell is. Hands down. He's good and friends with Pronger, which is why he was brought here. The other two are either sent down or traded.

Not on the roster yet. Holmgren will trade Giroux for one

Bartulis, he'll improve and bump O'Donnell to 7th, and Walker will be in Adirondak

I know the other 5 dmen are obviously a lock to be on the team, but Walker has a right handed shot from the point that the Flyers needed and I think he could be a solid third pairing stay-at-home guy.

Walker is the best of the 3. But Bartulis must get time and be able to evolve. Start with Walker, but rotate Barty in and out with him thru-out the season.

Probably looking at something like this:

Meszaros - Pronger
Coburn - Timonen
Carle - Walker
Bartulis

It could be Meszaros or Coburn in the bottom pair, I just randomly put Carle there. That's a slight upgrade over what we were looking at before, I guess. Sure as hell not worth trading Gagne for, but what can you do? O'Donnell is just the extra depth that Homer thought was the #1 need this offseason.

No question that Walker is the best of the 3 overall (I'm still mad about the stupid trade but I'm man enough to admit he is better than Bart and O'Donnell). It's just a matter of what the plan is. I assume that ODonnell will be the 7th and Bart goes to the Phantoms.

I don't think Bartulis would make it through waivers

Bart won't make it through waivers, and O'Donnell won't be lower then 6th.

From what I've seen I'd actually say that O'Donnell is the best out of the three. Walker may be right handed, but if we need his shot from the point we're in deep, deep trouble. It's useful in other situations though and he's an NHL calibre defenseman, just has double the cap hit that he should have (and was traded for a fan favourite...).

I like Bartulis, I like the way he looks so calm out on the ice, but he was having more and more trouble the longer the season lasted last year. With his small cap hit he's pretty much a lock as one of the 7 d's on the roster though I suppose.

No way OD came here to be outside of the top 6. And I don't know what exactly people saw in Bartulis last year because there's no question that of the three right now he's the worst.

Walker will be 7th, Bartulis will go to Adirondack. He doesn't need to go through waivers before the season starts. An extra year with top line minutes can only help him.

Pronger-Carle
Timonen-Coburn
Mezsaros-O'Donnell
Walker

You either dress Shelley or Walker to play policeman. You guys have to remember that injuries will happen. This depth will prevent Coburn and Carle from going on those **** streaks they've been having during the season.

I love this D, lots of inter changeable parts and lots of players that can play top end minutes.

O'Donnell is 6th and Bartulis or Walker is 7th, I'm guessing Walker.

edit: I think O'Donnell at least has to start out as the 6th, if he does terribly then perhaps he'll be switched out.

Walker is barely an NHL defenseman

Someone is probably going to be moved to make room for Walker. Otherwise ... well I guess we can stop looking for logic.

I don't know how much right handness matters with a defenseman that provides so little offense.

I foresee Carle or Meszaros being moved before the season opens.

Pronger - Carle/Meszaros
Timonen - Coburn
O'Donnell - Walker
Bartulis

Carle, Coburn, and Carter are the 3 remaining contracts with big cap hits and no clauses.

Coburn was just reupped. By all accounts, Carter is untouchable. Carle is coming off of a career year (being paired with Pronger or not). He likely will not be resigned.

To clear space for a goalie, I see him being moved and somebody being stuffed in the minors. Walker has been a career AHLer until he was 29.

He is that lovable, slow, barely ever scores, sucky stay at home dman that Homer loves getting for no readily apparent reason (see OKT, Vaananen, Krajicek, etc). I don't see him sticking with the big club when Bart is just as worthwhile, has more upside, and comes at 1/3 the cost.

I will seriously laugh my ass off if Holmgren somehow manages to trade Walker and Shelley for something more than half decent and make the gagne trade a little less horrific.

but knowing him it'd probably be for another 6th dman....

Why would he trade them? They make us tougher and harder to play against, besides solidifying our d.
