Why's that? We'd be trading for a guy further along the development path, who would hit UFA at the same time Hall, MPS and Eberle are finished their ELCs. I don't think it's a stretch at all to say that Gagner has the potential to be the same level of player as Zajac, and he fits in to our core a lot better than Zajac (based on how many years we own his rights, and age). Contrary to popular belief, Gagner is improving as a player. We have no need to trade him for immediate help. Adding Chorney and a 2nd (which could once again be in the 31-35 area) isn't really going in the right direction.

Ignore value, the Oil need to stick to the plan here.

My apologize from Oiler fans for hating on Zajac he is a fine player, but in a non rude way Gagner will likely prove to put up similar numbers throughout his career and this is a very weird trade.

I don't see him putting up any better numbers. He has reached his offensive potential I think. As per next weeks numbers, it depends on which lotto you mean.

That's even worse than that OP. The Devils would have zero grit after that trade.

Also, we can't afford Souray's cap hit. It doesn't cut salary, which is what we need.

Dang, I thought Zubrus had a high cap hit as well, my mistake. I guess we aren't really good trading partners.

If Oilers fans wouldn't want to make that trade either, that's fine by us.
point total went down in second year. Again, zajac started his NHL career at the age gagner enters this season. Gagner Had more points at 18 then zajac did at 22.
I like zajac, but he is definitely not in a higher class than gagner. Gagner' body is just maturing and he is finally on a team with a future. This is his year.

I don't think you get it. It doesn't matter which player is better. Each of them has a higher value to his current team than the other. Thus, they won't be traded for each other. This deal would never be proposed.

Me neither, i would take Zajac for Gagner in a second. I can only hope that Gagner will one day put up the numbers that Zajac is putting up now and Zajac is still only 25 and is getting better every year.

Gagner may put up similar, or even better numbers offensively as he develops, but Zajac is already one of the top defensive centermen in the league, as well as our best/most active faceoff man. He is getting more and more confident in his shot every season.

You have to remember that Devils fans tend to look at the two-way nature of players when considering them. Gagner definitely has the potential to put up more points than Zajac, but in terms of being a better overall package he would have to put up 15-25 points more, because Zajac's defensive game is that solid and I just don't see Gagner developing into a top notch two-way guy.

This. I feel like the Oilers fans who are saying Gagner will be better are only looking at offensive stats.

Re-read the facts and then comment so everyone can see that you don't understand math(point totals), science(age, maturity), or hockey.

Thank God.

I mean, I don't see anyway the Oilers don't take this and runaway laughing. Zajac would be an awesome centre to put guys like Eberle around.

The Devils wouldn't touch this one though.

If it involves numbers and thinking hard, It's SCIENCE! Everybody knows that.

Also, tprowse, where are you? I need to make sure that you never breed.

Its obvious neither side wants to do this trade. Gagner has more value for a rebuilding team, and New Jersey is in a win-now mentality(obviously with Brodeur retiring within 2 years).

Am I in the twilight zone? These are facts not fiction. Sam gagner had better numbers at 18 than zajac did at 20. Try and follow math is the stats and science is the age and male rate of maturation. Is it an opinion that zajac has also played on the better team. The rest, well maybe some opinion along with the math and science. Take this as an opinion if you would like devils fans, but, kovalchuk was a bad signing. Good for regular season flash but remember me in the playoffs. Oh, and I would have zajac on my team any day! Just not for gags.
