He will look Lou called him back for Kovy's presser. Zach and Langs will be there with Kovy so Lou is making it known that Zach is a leader and important piece to this team and organization. The one who might feel left out is Patty. He is an emotional guy he will have to change positions most likely and (i hope this DOES NOT HAPPEN) maybe lose his "A". (Speculation that i hope is incorrect)

I believe to help Kovy commit to the way we play he needs to just be a player and not have that leadership role right now. Just come in score goals and learn some new things. Dont worry about leading we got enough of them right now. Down the road some day i have no problem with him getting an "A".

Fun part is we arent done someone has to leave and we probably wont get much back but "In Lou I Trust" At lease maybe we will have another prospect to talk about.

If Zach and Langs are going, then Elias would too. He was already in town.

And I definately don't see Kovy getting an A, especially not because it'd have to come from Parise or Elias. Lou might have pulled this move out of left field, but he's not gone crazy.

IMHO, Kovy will get an A when Langs is gone and Zach is promoted to the C...

What would that mean for Elias?

Unless Elias is the player dealt (and that is inly if Rolston is completely unmovable) Kovalchuk is not getting a letter over him. He has been here the longest outside of Marty.

EDIT: I see you correction. I agree next year when Langs is gone he will get a letter. At that point you almost have to give him a letter with a 17 year deal.

His cap hit remains 6 no matter what his salary is. That's why the deal is 17 years long.

Notice 2 names that don't appear on that list - Hossa and Pronger. Lou said fine you mofo's, you wanna play duck the cap - I can too. And he did it BIG TIME.

Hossa's cap hit of 5.27 while making 7.9 (final 4 years at 1.0)
Pronger's cap hit of 4.9 while making 7.6 (final 2 years at .525)

Bravo Lou - fight fire with fire. They already call the 35+ rule the "mogilny rule", they'll call the next rule to prevent these late year diminishing contracts the "kovalchuk rule". Can't wait.

You're only pushing the envelope properly when they have to make new rules because of you.

You what I learned in all of this... How little people understand NHL contracts and the new CBA. What has it been 5 years since we've had the new CBA??? And people still don't understand what is going.

Some of the comments I've read in the last 15 or so hours are just wacky......It is like UFO convention out there. Mixed with the usual of conspiracy theorist and Flat Earth people........It is just Bizarre

Jim - you'd love watching Penn & Teller's ******** show - especially the last episode about area 51.

(2:10 check out that command center - what a waste... imagine having NHL Center Ice package with that setup)

This is just an awesome list. Kovy is locked up to a lifetime deal at a lower cap hit than all these players. The ones I've bolded, I think it's especially ridiculous that he costs less than them. Wow.

So I busted my tickets out to Kovy's first game against Toronto. I sat in...

Section 6, Row 6, Seat 6

I also have 2 from Marty's 552. I'm thinking have Marty sign one, Elias sign the other.

I have mixed feelings...

On one hand how can signing an elite sniper to reasonable cap hit long term be a bad thing...

On the the other hand...

Does/Will he fit? Is locking up two Left Wingers the way to build a champion? I would feel more comfortable with an elite center and elite defensemen taking up the first two spots in our payroll...

I'm always cautious about "winning in free agency" -- it typically is never a good thing.

I'm not sure....I don't want to be overly critical for two reasons....First and foremost the Devils have made a major committment and it something we'll have to live with -- the reasonable cap hit makes it more palatable. Second, the team right now is in major flux...It is to hard determine the direction this team is going right now but there seems to be a more clear direction than in years past even though I'm not sure what it is. I'll wait and see how this fleshes out. But there has been a paradigm shift in New Jersey.

Exactly. We got a first round value with the pick we got back, so you could say we gave up our second rounder in this draft, Bergfors, Cormier, and Oduya for Kovalchuk. That's a great deal for both teams.
