What player would you trade? 600K difference between their contracts both signed for the next 3 years, both serve the same purpose, Walker can play bigger minutes 10-15 minutes per game and can PK. Shelley is 15lbs heavier and obviously is a tough guy in the league for a long time but Walker is no joke either.

Of course Walker moves. You don't sign a free agent and deal him in the same summer. At least not if you want other FAs to sign with you in the future.
How is it that Holmgren was one of the worst coaches in Flyers history, ends up upstairs, and now looks like one of the worst GMs in franchise history?

I have no clue. I feel like HF (Flyers) could form a small braintrust and do a better job running the Flyers.
HFBoards (regulars who are not idiots) for Flyers GM!

In Ancient Rome some emperors would purposefully choose successors that they knew would be horrible so that the common people would look back on their reign fondly, despite however unpopular that emperor currently was.
Right now Bob Clarke is sitting in a leather chair inside a dimly lit room with a cigar in hand saying, "Excellent..."
Holmgren wont trade either.
Now if they were 20 plus goal scores who didnt fight, werent physical and was good defensively they would be traded. More then likely for a pile of ****.
Not that we havent seen that before.

But you trade for players, talk about how they are "solidifying" a part of your team and deal them in the same summer?
Homer wouldn't have acquired either player if he intended just to ship them out again. Barring some additional moves which change our current situation, they are both going to be here.

I didnt think this was allowed under the current CBA.

I think you're technically allowed to, but again, why would Homer make the effort to acquire a player only to dump them again?
Dominic Moore signed in Florida and was shipped to Montreal the same season. Seidenberg signed in Florida and was shipped to Boston the same season. Neither was during the same OFFseason, but it was within the same year.
Neither of them are going anywhere. Luckily the Flyers are not run by those that inhabit this board or they would be sitting at the bottom of the NHL every year with a roster full of soft Euros.

We should have got Hal Gill instead.
