You can't compare the two situation. (i'm not complaining about the language)
Montreal is the only team in a french province. That's why people want to see french player. If Toronto had 23 french player or 23 russian the fan would be complaining.
Again even though i'm a huge BQ/PQ i never complained about the language of a hockey player let's just put hockey on one side and politics one the other.

Geography or ethnicity shouldn't matter lol. Would RDS reject an anglophone from Montreal?
It's normal for Phoenix and Arizona lol I chose Toronto because they play in a great hockey province, who develop the majority of best players
RDS is a separatist channel. Too bad they have the exclusivity of Habs games (except my week-end gift : Hockey night in canada on CBC). Except Habs games , I banish them of my TV

Agree or disagree, I'd love to see this board respecting people's opinions as much as it makes no sense TO YOU.
People who want more quebecers in this team want them for the sole purpose of feeling more attached to it. Yes, it might be a feeling purely Quebecer. Yet, I read and hear a lot of things about how great it is for Calgary, Edmonton to get a nice Western boy, especially from the city they're going to be playing in. Same for TO. Strangely, TSN made a BIG case in this draft about how it would be great to see Bennett or Etem be picked by a Californian team. It's not SOLELY a Quebec thing. But it's more present here due to the number of journalists who covers the team and the IQ of the said journalists.....
Remove those journalists from the equation, the feeling might still be totally the same for some, but it wouldn't be a pain in the ass for the ones who don't agree with it 'cause you wouldn't hear it so much.
Just be careful to hate the players and not the game....Hate the journalists who are trying to get their point in your throat every single day. But Quebec is Quebec. Like the sun will always be the sun. You just better try to live with it and try to not care about what the stupid journalists are saying. Could be better for your health.
It's a shame that we have a guy like Subban (who is actually a Habs fan) and yet some fans would still rather have a player from Quebec, even if that player doesn't want to play in MTL (like Briere). I'm much more proud of having a good player who is an actual fan of the team and wants to play for them, regardless of which language he speaks.

Not sure of that, Subban will easily be the most popular player on our team for the next seasons. Since he is very spectacular and enthusiam, he will be more popular even than a guy like Lapierre.
Nobody would want some other guy from Quebec instead of Subban...

If Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Ottawa had 23 russians in their teams, there would be people complaining everywhere. I don't share opinions on the french/english debate in Quebec even though i'm a huge pro-Québec but I respect them.

True, but my point still remains. I'd rather have a guy who likes this team and wants to play here, but some people just care about the name on the back and in which language the guy does his interviews. Some fans would go crazy if the Habs got Briere, even if it was clear he didn't want to come here when he became a free agent.
I'm not sure I would have enough of five pages to explain what's wrong with that post.
theres nothing to explain dude
hockey is a sport, the language you speak, the place you were born is irrelivant. It's about winning and of course business. That's pretty much it dude, and i didnt need 5 pages

Before posting, I feel like I need to state that I'm an anglo with no french genes in me at all.
Onto my post. I understand the "need" of French players on the team, maybe more then some people on these boards. It's not about preserving the language really, but more the culture and history of this team's franchise. It was basically built by the foundation with quebecois players and they won Cups, and lots of them at that. In my honest opinion, say this team had a French captain and led the team to the Cup, it would be a different story. There would be no more complaints about lack of French presence.
However, the times have obviously changed. There is now a decline in talented players to come out of this province, and the progression of other provincial players is on the rise. With that said, the mind-set of the people of Quebec has not changed. They are all still in the times of the Richards, Beliveau, Lafleur and Savard.
