I'd want him in our bottom 6 for sure, but definately not for 2.4M. 1.8 or less I'd want take him, I don't even know if we'd have enough cap space though.

Last word we got from Management is there is no money left.

Sorry, no Gagne, no MacArthur, no <insert free agent>.

Sabres fan here...you don't want Mac in the Bleu, Blanc, et Rouge, trust me. He hits, sure, but he's too inconsistent at everything. He doesn't have the consistent offense to play top six all the time, he doesn't have the defense or mean streak to play bottom six all the time, and he'll often just vanishes for weeks at a time - usually after the halfway point in the season.

arbitration is a totally biased system. it's clearly not working right.

I agree 100%.

MacArthur isn't anything special. Doesn't bring anything notable to table. I'd rather give that 3rd line spot to Pyatt or White or Lapierre or even Patches

Who?

Christ we already have 6 of these guys and we're pressed against the cap. Not to mention we're starting the season with our #1 d~man injured and our 6th and 7th d are two guys who never made an nhl roster. If anything we need 1 more defenseman not another forward.

He is a good player but he isnt big.. He plays with an edge though.. can play on a second line but is more suited for the third, interesting but we should spend our money on a good defenseman..

White in the lineup and Pyatt out?

I don't think so.

I'll just say that if Pyatt is on our 3rd line we're in trouble.

Uh.. why? He played big in the playoffs, and it was his first year in the NHL. Ask anyone who has followed him and they'll tell you he improves by leaps in his second year wherever he goes.

Do you know what arbitration is? It is the exact definition of unbiased.

http://forecaster.thehockeynews.com/...layer.cgi?3565 describes him as an "Inconsistent scorer".

We don't need that.

We already have Benoit Pouliot & Andrei Kostitsyn to be those role players on our team.

I expect MacArthur will still be popular enough to draw a "fair" salary. Not $2.4M. But probably over $1.5M. I think there are players out there who would be able to help us as much/more, yet who will really fall into the total bargain bin next month. I'd just keep waiting, waiting, see what ends up in the bargain bin.

Mind you, that doesn't seem to be PG's plan. We do have young players who may be able to compete for spots up front. But to me, some of these bargain bin guys might be cheaper, more effective in the immediate short-term, and might also be parlayable into draft picks at the trade deadline - so it's not necessarily a totally short-term payoff to consider signing somebody. Look at Moore last year. The Panthers got a player to plug a hole, *and* a 2nd round pick.

Pyatt, Darche, Boyd, Moen, Lapierre do we have enough of this kind of player?

He's a 4th liner with a spot on the PK. Let's be real here, his offensive game is non-existant.

I say we take a shot at this guy. We have 4.7mill left why not try, 1.2 - 1.7 for 2 years or 1. Sign Price if we can to around 2.5 for 3 years. Say we got MacArthur at 1.5/2 years. We would have 700k left in cap and our lineup would be like this.

Pouliot Gomez Gionta
Cammalleri Plekanec Kostitsyn
Boyd Eller MacArthur
Moen Lapierre Pyatt

ex. Darche, White/Pacioretty

Markov Spacek
Hamrlik Subban
Gorges Gill

ex. O'byrne, Carle/Weber

Price
Auld

Like I said we could possibly have about 700k left in salary. Pretty decent IMO.
