I think he means if you look at all the drafts before 2006. All that being said I think Phillips would be the only top 5 pick who was a defenseman who wasn't traded(that is still in the NHL now)

I think he means before '06... meaning they would be developed by now, meaning that fully developed defensemen picked high are often available while centres aren't.

I know the Isles scout said a D, but could they ever go BPA?

CBJ might choose Murray or FF, if they feel there is still an issue with
Russians (maybe not Gally).

The Isles are the wildcard, for the Leafs I want their decision to be made
for them, but if Murray goes before NYI, I could see them off the board
(a bit)

The Leafs will take BPA, Murray or not.

Healy just mentioned that Team Canada wants to have Murray play in the World Hockey Championships. Says a lot about the kid.

If hes available at 5, Leafs take him. No question.

EDIT - I'll asterisk that. If a team above TOR makes an off the board pick and one of Galy/Grigs/or Forsberg are available as well I cant say we'll pick Murray over them.

Beat me to it. CBJ would be foolish not to take him. Kid is ready. He's mature...he's exactly what they need. Teams are built from the blue line and up.

They're as likely to go BPA as they are to go for a dman or just go off the board.

Niederreiter arguably was not even close to being the BPA at #5. He was the shiny new toy. If Teravainen, or even Collberg the way he's playing at U-18 keep going in terms of hype the Isles could easily take em.

Snow is too hard to predict. I'm not even saying that because it could yield a benefit to our two teams. It's just that hard to predict what Snow will do. It's about time they take a blueliner, but for all we know they'll take a forward. Doesn't mean that forward will be Forsberg or Galchenyuk.

Canada is considering Everett's Ryan Murray for World Champs. 5 D at the moment.Need at least 1 more.May add a CDN playing in Euro instead.

Hopefully they add him.

You telling me there is nobody in the NHL who they could call that would be better at this point then Murray or a Euro Canadian?

Isn't Lowe managing the team? Sort of reeks doing a favor for the Oilers so they can get a better read on him

Actually, Snow has no clue! Only thing I'm worried about is that he will trade down again and screw the Leafs doing so!! Trading down twice for Bailey!!!! Honestly!!

It's not like any of Schenn, Filatov, Wilson or Boedker are running away with the how could we have passed them up award

TSN had Nino at 7, so 5th is not much of a stretch(especially when you consider how far Fowler and Gormley dropped). All the forwards were drafted in the exact order TSN had them ranked that year(although most higher then TSN had them ranked when you factor in defense and goaltending) from Hall to Granlund

Follow up to Ryan Murray and team Canada. I do expect he will be asked and will play some exhib games for Can prior to World Champs. #TSN

But Schenn sure as hell is running away with the "Kicking the Dog" award in Toronto

Can't compliment a prospect much more than asking him to join the World Champs for Canada. Just shows how talented the guy is.

Suppose you could be cynical and say the other Canadian defencemen available must have looked real bad this year .

If CBJ passes on him at #2, he's pretty much yours I would imagine.

I think Edmonton was planning on taking Ryan Murray all along(since last year). Last season they had a chance to address their biggest need, defense. They could've had Adam Larsson who is still considered a possible franchise d-man but they chose to ignore their true need and selected a Western Canadian center in Nugent-Hopkins. At the time, the 2012 draft was considered a deep draft of top end D-men, with Ryan Murray (another Western Canadian kid) topping that list of D. Now they'll have Jordan Eberle, Ryan Murray, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Taylor Hall as the corner stones of the franchise. All four of these guys are Western Canadians (Taylor Hall born & raised in Calgary until age 14)

Isles are going to settle for Dumba

Great point about the Oilers, Isles always find a way to get screwed but I think this season they finally get something that helps them in the future. I wanted Dumba all year but now Im hearing that he had a terrible second half this season. I dont care at this point, Isles need a guy that will infuse a winning attitude into this team. JT and Hamonic look like the only ones that care.

So where are all those guys who were ripping Ryan Murray apart when Team Canada lost in the Gold Medal Game?

I remember multiple days of Ryan Murray bashing following the final game. Most annoying thing I've ever witnessed on hfboards.
