Best defenseman to come out of the WHL in the past 5 years. He is that good. Good at everything. Whichever franchise that is lucky enough to draft him will reap the benefits for many, many years...
Just made a video rather quickly from the highlights this past year. I tried to show all parts of his game as i do in most of my videos; goals, assists, hits, defensive work (both good and some blunders thrown in). Some clips are quick, so you might have to concentrate. I'll try to add quote bubbles tomorrow... just too tired today.

Great job!
Don't think it's only the #27 on his back...but i can see where the comparisons to Nieds come from. Looks eerily similar at times.
I don't know why, but I thought Ryan Murray was a Schenn, Alzner kind of guy...with a tad more offense. Interesting to hear what people are saying about him though.
Niedermayer was my comparison for Ryan Murphy. For those who have seen both, how does Murray compare to Murphy?
Murphy is flash and dash, explosive. Can rush the puck up the ice, untouched, and bury it with a rocket shot.
Murray plays a much safer game. Thinks the game much better than Murphy and plays defensive hockey much much better. He doesn't have the explosive offense but he gets his offense off of nice reads, jumping into the play and a solid shot from the point.
I see Murray as a Niedermayer and I see Murphy as a Green/Boyle kind of player.

I agree with this comparison. Murray may even have a little bit of Lidstrom in him, in that while he is not as flashy a Dman, he's very cerebral and some of the great plays he makes are very subtle.

Lids almost never rushes the puck, Murray uses his incredible skating to take into the o-zone.

I agree and while he can rush the puck he is more like Lidstrom or Robinson on the back end a real general of defense going to be a stud.
The Silvertips play very conservative hockey, if at the World juniors they want to unleash him he will shine offensively as well.
Might not go 1st overall due to the lack of flash but will be the best player from the 12 draft and play for a winner much of his career.
That would be too good to be true. I have a feeling we draft high but we just barely miss the elite talent. I hope I'm wrong.
What would people think of the Oilers if we added Murray?
It would be an excellent decision that's for sure. If the Oil don't get him and still want a defenseman, there'll still be several other elite defense to pick from. Ebert, Rielly, Reinhart, Dumba, Trouba, and many many more.
When you say you feel the Oilers could "barely miss the elite talent" I kind of doubt that. Even if they come 6th last or something, theyre going to get an extremely talented player. Its a very, very, very good draft.
I'd say there's a fairly small chance the Oilers take a forward in this draft unless they have one of the top 3 picks, in which case they just might have to draft a guy like Yakupov, Galchenyuk or Grigorenko (we'll see how the upcoming season goes though). They are not only desperate for high end defenseman, but will have their pick of a number of very talented ones.
