You guys are going to love Marty. 100% effort every time. Great locker room presence. Good character with youngsters. he's also killer on the PK

Yea, I'd rather have Reasoner than Taffe, even if he is more expensive.

Looks like Gregory Campbell has been replaced.

Gosh, that was hard.

I like this move a lot, Reasoner >> Taffe.

Scouting Report:

Assets

* Is an intelligent player that is most effective checking opposing centers. Has sound hockey sense and pretty good passing ability.

Flaws

* Could use his body a little more effectively against offensive pivots. Will never be confused with a great goal-scorer. Lacks a little confidence on offense.

Career Potential

* Checking line center.

* Awards
1997 NCAA - East First All-American Team
1997 NCAA - Championship All-Tournament Team
1997 HE - Tournament MVP Award
1997 HE - First All-Star Team
1996 HE - First All-Star Team
1995 HE - Rookie of the Year
1995 HE - All-Rookie Team

I don't yet understand why get excited about this trade, other than it breaks the monotony of summer. Ok, so Reasoner is Taffe 2.0 but so what. Is this 33-yo veteran otherwise something to celebrate as he plays a few minutes on our 3rd or 4th line? Will he help keep us from getting the #1 pick with his superb play? Or should it rather be noted that we did yet another Kia Rio trade? Not sure how to read this, and why Tallon bothered. In the end, NBD either way I guess.

who's getting excited? it's a good move, simple as that. reasoner is no crosby, but comparing him to taffe is silly. reasoner has proven himself as a quality nhl player. he's very good on the PK and capable of scoring 10-15 goals a year.

taffe has yet to establish himself as an NHL player.

Every trade can't be a blockbuster.

I think Tallon is simply trying to rebuild the team that has been lacking in depth. Yes, it is also lacking in superstar talent. But you can't seriously expect that we acquire anything incredible with the tradeable assets that we have - just look what we got for Horton.

Any trade that improves the team is a good trade.

Nice work Tallon.

Reasoner is an upgrade over Taffe, and you have to look at the roster and realize Taffe was probably going to pick up a 4th line slot. This will be better, and that's despite the fact it may not matter this year - but it's nice to have solid character players throughout the lineup when the team's ready to make a push for the playoffs again.

Love this move!! A center who actually won more faceoffs than he lost Just checked only 12 giveaways and 51 takeaways last season

I'm with you. Yeah he's an upgrade and yeah it's possible we might get a good deal for him at the deadline, but the team is still heading for the 1st overall--which I am in favor of, at this point.

Honestly, I would have been quite satisfied if they did nothing until the season. I believe the 1st overall pick would do more good than lucking into the playoffs.

Solid move, gives us a solid 3rd-4th line center whose good at faceoffs. Nothing outstanding, we're still out of the playoffs, but I think this further shows that Tallon's not done.

Another old vet added over the summer. Not surprised. The move goes under the category of whatever.

I like it, he's good to have around the young guys and this pretty much ensures that we are going to tank it this season.

I'll reinforce what oneel said.

First I really would have rather not have to face Marty 6 times a season. Was glad he was moved out west versus the east.

Guy will be a very good leader on the ice and in the locker room for the Panthers.

He is a good PK'er. Is responsible in his own end. Blocks shots. Is pretty decent at picking people's pockets. Doesn't turn the puck over hardly and will crash the net. Has no problem with physical play. And will win more faceoffs than he loses. If you take a look at his defensive zone draws his percentage is even higher.

For the Thrashers for the past 2 seasons he was their #1 PK forward and moved around centering different. He mainly spent time on the 3rd and 4th line. He centered Kovy for a little while during 08-09, but he is not a Top 6 center.

I was really sad to see him go in the Buff trade. I would have rather the team have kept him and not resigned Slater. Reasoner is not the kind of player that is going to wow you with skill. But he is the type of player that you will be glad is on your team.

I hope all this helps. Good luck this season.

Reasoner is a fantastic locker room guy. He won the "player's player" award twice in Atlanta. Until he left Atlanta for Chicago, some were calling for him to be named captain. (He's the Anti-Horton)

Good luck Marty!
