if dives count as goals, put Cole down for the Rocket Richard trophy.

Blues/Leafs fan here. I own Boychuck in my keeper league, have to bring him up from my farm. I figure he will make a top 2 line. You guys seem to be not too enthusiastic, his AHL stats were encouraging, why the lack of enthusiasm for Boychuck ?

Simply not enough room for him. Of the 4 wingers in the Top 6, Jokinen, Cole, and Ruutu will likely fill three of them. Then it'll be Boychuk in a dogfight for the last spot with Samsonov, Tlusty, and LaRose, depending on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, the number of red Volkswagens Maurice spots on his way to practice.

I think we all like Boychuk. He got moved from center to wing in the pros and it hasn't exactly been seamless. I believe he's been passed by Zac Dalpe and Drayson Bowman (others would argue on Bowman), then we drafted Jeff Skinner and traded for Riley Nash. The bottom line is that we have a bunch of forwards on the cusp of playing in the NHL and Boychuk is going to have to earn the spot.

It's hard to say who has passed Boychuk as of right now, we'll really have to wait for training camp to know for sure. I wouldn't see him on a top 2 line at the start of the season, but I could see him there eventually if we get injuries to guys like Ruutu or Cole.

For starters, I don't think Staal will score the most goals on the Canes next year.

I saw an earlier poster's take on Larose, and not only do I agree that he will have a breakout year on a contract year, he will exceed Staal in the goal scoring department

Yes, and Samsonov will win the Art Ross.

Clearly, we'll trade Staal at the deadline for Wallin and every game past that will go to OT, Wallin scoring the winning goal for each.

I think he will as well. As long as the injury bug doesn't strike...again. It seems as though the injury bug has taken up residence in Cole's locker, however...

When healthy, he's shown he can score at a pace that would give him 20-25 goals over an entire season. If he scores, say, 23 goals and adds 27 assists for 50 points, I'd call that a really successful season.

to getting injuries playing soccer in a hallway, as opposed to getting injured on the ice?

This is actually true nowadays but I wonder why. I remember Pitkänen having a cannon of a shot back in Philly (he did score 13 goals in 58 games with them) and I've heard he's clocked a slapshot over 96 mph... If he'd use that shot a little more, he would be somewhat perfect PP-QB with that awesome mobility of his. We all know that his passing skills are elite anyway.

I think he's a perfect PP-QB as it is...the big shot isn't really necessary to fill that role. Mobility, vision, stickhandling, and passing makes the PP-QB, not the shot.

But if he used his shot a bit more, he'd be even more unpredictable. And that'd make him better than he's now.

I agree with you, but I think it's more that he's playing with guys who are great trigger men but not the best passers. Corvo and Babchuk are definitely better shooters than setup artists, and at this point I'd say that's true of McBain as well (though he may grow into a great passer). I think Pitkanen would rather use other players' shots to the team's advantage than take his own. Somebody has to set up us the bomb.
