Every knowledgeable fan predicted that goalies would be left without a job by this time of year. Guess what? They were right. Theodore and Turco are both still available with possibly Niemi joining them later. Danis and Nabokov both went to the KHL because they couldn't find a job. That's four, potentially five goalies, with all but one of them being starters.

So, actually, yeah, everybody ****ing predicted this because it was ****ing obvious that it would happen.
I agree with all that you have said in your recent posts on this point, GG, with the exception of the bolded text. Nabokov signed for 6 years $24 mil in the KHL. I don't think there was any NHL team ready to give him that kind of deal. I'm sure he could have found a home pretty easily in the NHL, but he would have had to take much less.

You'll be more depressed when Gagne has a five-hole hattie against us in his return.

This thread is like the scab you just can't stop picking at, no matter how much it hurts.

Drop the topic!? I already can't wait for part 3!!!

Here again is the professional re-enactment of Holmgren during negotiations...

And again, here is Yzerman afterwards...

Why do your responses have to be in picture format? They are often hilarious, but in picture form often means blocked at work.

True enough. It was kind of a combination of the two though. Nabokov was willing to play in the NHL for less, it's just that he wouldn't go any lower then what he was demanding so instead of lowering his NHL asking price he just said "**** it, I'll play in Europe instead for the money I want". Judging by how full most of the rosters are and how late Danis waited to decide to go the KHL route I'm guessing Danis looked for an NHL spot and couldn't find anyone who wanted him.

Both pics/gifs were posted in the previous thread...kid with the ice cream cone, and the laughing Yzerman.

If you want to wallow in the defeat of the return, that's not exactly the best example to use. Carcillo did get a larger return, a much larger return in fact(in part because Holmgren's a dope)...but he was also making around 800k at the time.

How about the fact, though, that Scott ****ing Gomez, with multiple years left on his $700 million deal, got a much, much better return than Gagne?

I truly don't think I could even come up with many deals that featured a worse return than this one, as just about any NHL GM would sooner waive a player than take back this non-need, negative value, junk mother****ing bs.

As of right now, I rank this as the worst trade in Flyers history, worse than the Poulin for Linsman deal, and worse than the trading of Oulette and many picks for Adam Oates. Gagne for a 4th round pick? No one would offer more than that? Besides the fact the idiot Holmgren put himself in the position to be forced to get rid of Gagne for cap space.

The only way this turns out OK is if Gagne gets a career ending injury in the first season, Walker turns into a 30 year old "gem" and the 4th round picks becomes a 4th round gem like Mark Recchi.

I didn't keep up with the first one too much, but the second part...that's where we all agreed to find Holmgren's house and vomit on his doorstep, right?

Right?

Dammit! Now that you put it that way, it makes me hate Holmgren even more. When Glen ****ing Sather proves to make a better deal than you, you truly are a terrible GM.

Lindros trade is the worst trade in team history. This does not even come close to what we gave up for that.

This was still a bad trade though.

which one? The one where we swindled 'em out of the draft picks, or the one where we got all the parts we wanted back and Langkow?

I don't even think the Oates deal was that bad. At that time, it was a ton, but I believe he was 2nd in the league in assists at the time. If he hadn't been a rental, it might not have looked so bad. He had 10 points in 14 regular season games as a Flyer.

We were also in a similar position to Marsellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction, which people tend to ignore.

If I'm catching your drift correctly, we were also being gagged.
