Timonen not mentally ready yet

Ouch....and that pic doesn't help

Somebody get this guy some ginseng or whatever..gonna need him to be in form with Leighton in net!

Quote:
Kimmo Timonen says he still hasn't completely gotten over the bitter ending of last season.

"It felt like ten months had gone down the drain. Actually, it still feels like that."

Timonen played well over a hundred games last season, including preseason, regular season, Olympics and playoffs. It was demanding physically, but possibly even more so mentally.

"It was the toughest season I've ever had. My body was pretty much broken in the end."

The summer so far has not been enough time to recover from all of that.

"My body is in a relatively good condition, but I haven't recovered mentally yet. The idea of having to jump back into a similar situation feels pretty hard right now."

Nonetheless, the Timonen family will be flying back to North America already this week.

Sometimes I have this irrational urge to just strangle Holmgren.

Kimmo knows we ain't winning **** with Leighton, I don't blame him for feeling like this, I bet a lot of guys in that room feel the same way.

Tell me about it....I figured some of the Flyers would suffer an emotional let down that would carry over in the 1st half of this season but given the stakes with our goaltending situation and Pronger still on the mend....this article kind of is disconcerting. Briere on the other hand sounds like he's ready to go based on the article in CSN I read. His personal issues are behind him and he is leaner and he's looking forward to playing with Hartnell and Leino which Lavy is not going to break up.

Anyway, Leighton better be ready to pull his weight! Can you imagine Timonen working his butt off in his mental state and watching soft goals go in...oh the horror!

i cant blame him a bit. especially since on that last goal, Kimmo did everything he was supposed to, held Kane to a crappy shot that had no business going in...and it got past Leighton anyways. I can see how it would all feel futile. hopefully once the season starts he can get focused.

You are right he's probably replaying that dumb goal in his head.....I say he sues Leighton and Holmgren for PTSD...heck I may file a claim.

Yeah, he's definitely calling out MFL and Holmgren and his off-season screw ups. I feel the same way. Very depressing.

I can't even imagine how much that sucks though.

Imagine working as hard as you can for 10 straight months, constantly being dogged by a really incompetent co-worker who ****s up a lot of your good work, coming this close to retiring with a huge salary (I'll equivocate that and winning the Stanley Cup), and then that co-worker ****s you over hugely.

Then, not only that, instead of being fired, that coworker gets a raise worth 3x his previous salary and you know you'll go through the same thing next year.

Haha, I read this article before it was posted on this forum, and thought nothing more then Kimmo was just still heartbroke from the loss.

Everyone in this thread that has posted so far, thinks it means that Kimmo is calling out Holmgren and MFL.

What do you expect from the guy?

You think he's gonna talk about how life is great coming so close to his and his teamates lifelong goal only to come up short. Doesn't matter how good or bad your GM is. Losing in the stanley cup finals sucks and has to take a huge mental strain on the players.

This.

You guys are obsessed, absolutely and completely, with hating Holmgren.

You're welcome to hate him if you want and you have valid evidence to do so, but it sounds like some of you are really making it your life's work to assassinate him. Let's calm down a bit.

It's a bit of a worry to know how he's not doing too well, Pronger may not be ready to go, Betts definitely won't be ready. You have to wonder how Richards is doing after all the games he played but at least he's younger and didn't seem to have an injury at the end of the season.

It's funny how the off season seems so long to us but to the players I bet they wish they had an extra month or two, especially the heart and soul type players.

Well if they struggle, all the excuses are there.
1. carter still hurt.
2. pronger surgery
3. kimmo not mentally ready
4. betts surgery
5. Leino surgery
6. carcillo surgery

I'm not shocked. The mental fatigue that comes with such a long season - especially coming so close and falling short - really weighs on guys, and most of the time takes at least that next season to get over.

While I agree with you to some degree, I don't think it's too far fetched that some players realize what happened this offseason and that, for some players, older guys like Timonen, they know they only get so many chances.

If I'm a player I'm excited we got so close to taste it.

Am I worn out? Of course, but knowing you still have a good shot at the championship is a huge boost.

At least it would be to me anyway.

Some of you people talk like we're a lottery team.

i like how you guys read so much into what he said...

did you ever stop to think all he meant was he was still fatigued, and wasnt really ready to start the grind for the stanley cup all over ???

adding names into what he said is pure biase on your parts..

some of teh members here are so tainted with player hate it makes me wonder if you really like this team or not ???

remember its about the crest on the front of the jersey NOT the name on the back...

I really don't have a problem with what he said. I admire his heart and honesty and I think once he gets to Philly his frame of mind will change. He's a warrior and he'll be fine.

At least Holmgren picked up some solid D's this off-season so Kimmo/Pronger won't have to log all those minutes like last season because our third line D sucked big time.
