Ryan Suter as 2012 UFA

Keep in mind he'll be the biggest name fa in that class. It's a very weak ufa class. How much will he get on the open market?

Well, Hamhuis got 4.5 for 6 years. He is second fiddle to Suter.

If the free agent market continues to rise with the cap and Suter's play holds up, my guess is 6.5 minimum and minimum 6 years.

I honestly don't see Suter becoming a UFA, but I guess if he were to test the market 6.5-7 wouldn't be surprising. There are a lot who think Suter is as good as, if not better than, Weber.

Cue Dallas and a new ownership group. Whatever it takes, I pray they'd pay it.

I would think at the very least, $6 million, and that would probably be for a home town discount.

I was thinking anywhere from 6-7. Rangers will have 20 mill in cap space that summer so maybe he'll ever get 8

Tom Ciggaran, chairman of the Predators, just stated this week in an interview that Suter and Weber will not be leaving.

I highly doubt that Poile lets Suter get to UFA status. He realizes that he hit the jackpot with Suter and Weber in the 2003 draft. A defensive pairing like these two doesn't come around very often.

Yeah Dallas would need to do whatever it could to get him signed if he hit UFA. However, I don't really think he is the type of player who hits UFA status at such a young age. Players of his caliber on a team thats at least competitive are far more likely to re-sign with their current team on a long term deal.

as has been said here a couple of times, the Predators' chairman\owner Tom Cigarran said that their discussions with David Poile have basically lead to the identification of Shea Weber and Ryan Suter as the"pillars" of the franchise. He also said that he knows they're both going to be due big raises, and that they will get whatever they need to stay. Weber is RFA next summer, and they say they know "ballpark" what he's looking for, and he'll get it. Suter is likely the same situation, and I have to think they'll start working on it ASAP, next summer.

Now, hypothetically, on the open market? If I'm a team with the money to do so, I don't hesitate to give Suter 7.5-8 million a year. Franchise defensemen don't pop on to the market all that often, especially not at 27 years old.

He probably will get a new contract from the preds before he becomes a ufa. Based on the contracts given to defensemen this offseason i agree that he could fetch 6-7 million per depending on the length of the deal

I have a feeling Suter will be raising his game this coming season. He still has time to prove to be worth more than 7mil/yr to some teams. I think we'll wrap him up at around 5.5-6 though

6.5 million per yr/4-5 yr deal, but this could all change depending on what happens with the new cba.

Remember how Rick Nash was supposed to be one of the big-name free agents this summer?

Suter will be handled exactly the same way.

You mean just like what Sutter said about Dion then bam he's gone!. GMs say these things all the time maybe the preds will keep them both but I don't see how they can afford to pay 14 mil for 2 D man...

Unless he signs a 10+ year deal, probably 6.5mil+/yr.

One, it's not like Nashville doesn't have the cap space. Two, when you get two young studs like that on the blueline you keep them together as long as you. Their games compliment each others perfectly so if you're the Preds and them, why would you want to split them up or leave?
