Yes... not much change from olympics except bumping Seabrook in favor of Green and replacing Neids with Mike Green
Double Mike Green!? Kenny Holland is NOT going to be happy.

if there is a World Cup (which seems as if it is almost certain), it will not be held in 2011...it will be held in 2012...the league and Bettman stated this a few months back I believe. They want it to go every 2 years between the World Cup and the Olympics..

Canada:

Hall- Crosby- Stamkos
Richards- Toews- Nash
Neal- Getzlaf- Perry
E. Staal- Carter- Horton
Tavares

Keith- Seabrook
M. Staal- Doughty
Bouwmeester- Weber
Green

Luongo
Fleury
Ward

PP1:

Stamkos- Crosby- Tavares
Keith- Green

PP2:

Perry- Getzlaf- Nash
Weber-Bouwmeester

Hall, Crosby, Stamkos just screams speed. I think Hall will progress rapidly in 2 years time, like Stamkos did. His (and Stamkos') speed and scoring are a great fit with Crosby. This line will be frightening.

Richards-Toews- Nash... zero chance of them being broken up after how dynamite they were in Vancouver 2010.

Neal replaces Morrow with Getzlaf and Perry from 2010. Morrow was excellent with these two because he wasn't fancy, and got his hands dirty fighting down low, which was contagious with Perry and Getzlaf and influenced them from being too cute with the puck.

I'm assuming North American size ice, so Staal, Carter and Horton are all big boys who can skate and score.

At this rate Carey Price makes the team. Drop Fleury.

I will take a crack at Team Canada as of Nov.23rd 2010. I'm just gonna go with the top 12 forwards and 6 d-men at this time.

E.Staal - Crosby - Stamkos
Cammalleri - Getzlaf - Perry
Nash - Toews - Richards
Morrow - Helm - Iginla

No Heatley or Marleau, as an Oiler fan I'm very willing to admit neither Hall or Eberle will be ready yet, Iginla is starting to heat up and show he isn't done as a great player but I still think he will only be on the 4th line. Morrow might be replaced by teammate James Neal by that time, or perhaps by Evander Kane who as we've seen in the World Jr's could play that checking line role. As for the shocker that is Darren Helm on that 4th line...this is me playing with a crystal ball. I think Detroit makes another deep playoff run this year and Helm being there 3rd line center with AMAZING wheels, youth and experience he would be the perfect guy for the 4th line as opposed to a guy like Jordan Staal who doesn't have the wheels, though as more than enough of the skill set.

Keith - Weber
Doughty - Myers
Pronger - Green

Green won't be in this spot if he doesn't show up in April this year or next. Pronger is there IF he has not retired which doesn't seem likely right now, but who knows what next season will bring. The top 4 I personally love. I think Seabrook got exposed as the weak link between himself and Keith in the Olympics (although that's not to say he isn't great) and I would feel much more comfortable putting Keith and Weber together. Plus, this is the World Cup, not the Olympics. I don't think the managment team will put anywhere near the emphasis on lines that have played together, d-men that have played together as they did at the Olympics (which from my POV didn't help much anyways).

Ward
Luongo
Price

Price is playing incredible right now so he will be there if that keeps up. Amazingly Luongo is the one I'm not so sure about on this list. Ward is the best kept secret in hockey even after winning a Conn Smythe! This guy is the best goaltender this country has to offer right now, he can go toe to toe with Ryan Miller. Obviously Fleury has shaken his annual early season slump as of late and will likely be given heavy consideration.

people are always worried about fleury and i am too even as a pens fan

this is a tourny taking place early in the year and hes not good even to the midpoint, i say keep him off, now world championships hell ya if pitty is a first round exit

ward is a beauty and i agree as long as price keeps it up he could be starter (and that comes from a non habs fan)

bobby lou has competition but has a great track record to fall back on, he'll be there

Someone like James Neal could get some serious consideration. I think he was in the running last time.

TEAM CANADA
Nash-Crosby-Stamkos- the size(nash) playmaking 9crosby) and shooting (stamkos) not to mention the great wheels make this line almost unstopable

Heatley-Thornton-C.Stewart: Heatleys a given and Thornton almost is due to his chemistry with heatley. Stewart fits perfectly on this line as he loves to bang bodies and drives the net hard. i remember from last years playoffs

J.Staal-Toews-Richards : the grind line that can sure as hell score on you if you dont play tough defence. this line will cause nightmares for other teams top lines.

Hall-Taveras-EBERLE- the kid line. all 3 have had tremendous success at the WJC and should have some higher end international comp before 2014 when all 3 will play major roles. Oh and in case we go into OT vs USA again we have Eberle. Ya him. That guy whos the definition of clutch.

Extras (since the WC allows more then 12 & 6) Getzlaf, Neal, St.Louis, E. Staal

Doughty-Pronger : Pronger wears the C at this tourny. Him and Doughty provide great teamwork and will be able to contribute on the scoreboard.

Weber-Myers : Myers has a strong bounce back year and plays himself onto this team

Seabrook-Scheen : The shutdown pair. Why dont you go and get the puck from the corner. Exactly

Extras- Keith, M.Staal,

Goalies

Fluery
Price
Ward

No Luo or Broduer since Broduer is gonna retire and well Luo hasnt played like he deserves a spot in years

And gets us 3 prime aged goalies for 2014

I will assume it will be in 2012:

Nash -- Crosby 'A' -- M. Richards
Neal -- Getzlaf -- Perry
Tavares -- Stamkos -- St Louis 'A'
E. Staal -- Toews -- Iginla 'C'
Giroux
H.M: Hall, Brad Richards, Sharp, Duchene, Lucic

Seabrook -- Keith
Pronger 'A' -- Letang
Doughty -- Weber
Pietrangelo
H.M: Schenn, Boyle, Bouwmeester, Marc Staal

Price
Ward
Fleury

Iggy gets the C to take pressure of Crosby. St Louis gets on by virtue of playing with Stamkos. Thornton doesnt get a sniff at this team, Marleau has struggled, and I would rather have JT than Heatley

On D, Letang gets on to move the puck and he has been stallar this year on Pitsburgh. Pietro has been real impressive in St Louis.

I agree with the posters who say that Hockey Canada will use a 2012 World Cup, if there is one, as a tryout for the 2014 Olympics. I don't think we will see older wingers like Iginla, Doan, Morrow, St. Louis etc. Some of the wing spots will be filled by centers shifted from their usual positions like Eric Staal, for example. But more of the wing contingent will come from young players.

Rick Nash is still young enough to be selected in 2014 so, if healthy, he would probably make a World Cup team at LW. Heatley might be added for veteran presence though he is on the bubble with respect to age. I think a healthy Lucic would be a very good bet also. One or more of James Neal, Taylor Hall, Evander Kane and maybe even Mason Raymond, if they want speed, might be good bets. If you can predict which of that group will be playing best in 2012, you are a better prognosticator than I am!

RW is a similar situation. Corey Perry is pretty much a sure thing, IMO. I think a center or two will be playing RW. Then pick from among Chris Stewart, Claude Giroux, and maybe Nathan Horton. Is Patrick Sharp a late bloomer who might be considered? If he continues to score like this year, maybe he will get a call.

Centers are easier. Crosby, Stamkos, Toews and Getzlaf are virtual locks, though Toews and Stamkos might be on the wing. You have to think that Mike Richards has a defensive center, pk specialist, slot pretty much in hand. Staal would shift to the wing, I think. Carter also has a good shot on the wing. That leaves younger players like Duchene and Skinner as potential surprises. Tavares would have to turn his game around even to be considered, not impossible at 20 years of age.

The blueline will be very good under almost any scenario. Doughty is the ace, despite his surprising lack of production this year. He's just too good a player not to recover, IMO. The same goes for Shea Weber. Keith and Seabrook may well repeat as a tandem. Tyler Myers is having a bit of a sophomore slump, but is a real talent and might replace Pronger in the giant defender slot. Brent Burns will likely be considered and Mike Green, also less productive than expected, might make it as a pp specialist this time. The surprise youngsters might be Marc Staal or Luke Schenn. (Hey, I'm a Leafs fan and he has taken a huge step forward this year.)

Goaltending is the real problem. The star Canadian goaltender is starting to look like a vanishing species in the NHL. It really is a serious problem. Right now, it looks like Price, Fleury and Ward are the best bets for 2012 and 2014. Loungo will be on the wrong side of 30, even in 2012, and is now, statistically, only a middle of the pack goalie, as he has been for a year and a half. He will have to regain his form to be considered.

Hopefully Lucic gets more consideration than he did for the Olympics last year with how he has looked so far this season

Lucic was invited to the Canadian Olympic team training camp in the summer of 2011 and would have had a very good shot at the team, if it had not been for his injury ridden season last year. I think a healthy Lucic is a very, very strong bet for a 2012 World Cup team and for Sochi in 2014.

U.S. team probably won't be that much differant from the Olympic Team:

Goaltenders:

Ryan Miller
Tim Thomas (or Jimmy Howard if Thomas fades)
Jonathan Quick

Defensemen:

Erik Johnson/Jack Johnson
Ryan Suter/Cam Fowler
Dustin Byfuglien/Keith Yandle
Paul Martin/Brooks Orpik

Forwards:

Pat Kane-Paul Stastny-Bobby Ryan
Zach Parise-Joe Pavelski-Phil Kessel
Dustin Brown-Ryan Kesler-David Booth
Ryan Callahan-Brandon Dubinsky-TJ Oshie

Tavares has shown his ability to put up decent numbers on a horrid team. We know that he can produce internationally, and can play the wing. Duchene has not shown he can play wing.
