Would not fit under the cap. Redden would have to be sent down. Also no point in having MZA sit in the press box. If he's not in the lineup, he should be in HFD.
bump bump I here a thump his name is the same as an assassinated President not named Lincoln. Getting a bit thick on wingers and bottomline centers now:
White starts on DL - then to Hartford for conditioning?
Two of MZA, Weise and Grachev start year in Hartford - camp will decide this
On Defence:
Staal - Girardi
Rozi - MDZ
McDonaugh - Gilroy
Eminger
Redden is waived, passes through waivers and is loaned out to a team in Europe (Södertälje in SEL?)
I could see us trading Gilroy (if anoyone is a taker) and adding toughness ie Exelby somewhere down the line.
Hmmm - Sign Exelby at 600.000, trade Gilroy + one of Boyle/Kennedy + Ryan Bourque and Washingtons 2nd 2011 for Savard & trade Christ to FLA for a lower draft pick. Would work just barely, but only if Staal resigns at a lower number and length (say 3,5 million $$$ for 2 years...) than most think. Otherwise - no.
In goal we know...and trust...

I think MZA starts out in Hartford.
If White's healthy he's a quality hockey player who belongs in the NHL, and is superior to pretty much all of our Centers offensively. If he's healthy, he deserves to start and may force some moves.
Boogard will play most nights, imo. The wingers on our 4th line are set.
Avery needs to play big if he's going to be a regular in our line-up, imo..
We've been very fortunate with injury's over the past few season's. It's nice having some depth incase we're not-so-lucky this year.
The story of this year really is that we have a ton, and I mean a ton, of maybes. So many we are arguing over which of them fit in the lineup.
We have Todd White off the scrap heap, who is one season removed from 70 points, a barrier is is very possibly not a single one of our centers (Except maybe Stepan) will ever break. But he has injuries, and is hard to fit with our cap.
We have Mats Zuccarello-Aasen, who at a young age was the MVP of the 4th best hockey league in the world, and played at a similar level of offensive output to Peter Forsberg and Marcus Naslund (one year off a 24 goal season). But his size and the ability to play on a smalle rice surface against the Prongers and Webers of the NHL is an enormous maybe. I such a much higher probability of failure than of success.
We have Erik Christensen, who is a skating contradiction when it comes to talent and point production. Don't get me wrong, he isn't Enver Lisin, but we dont know if he'd score 20 points or 80 on a line with Gaborik over the whole season. Spending 7 mil on Drury as a third line center has forced us to take a chemistry gamble on our first line center for the next 2 years.
And then we have a fight for an alleged 3rd pairing defenseman spot when Redden is waived, with the knowledge thatthat player is either (A playing with Matt Gilroy) or (B Playing with Eminger) so we need him to be pretty solid. No one knows if it willl be McDonagh, the slick skating defenseman from Wisconsim with some balance problems, Valentenko, the mean Russian defenseman who has serious injury problems, or Sauer, the steady consistant stay at home defenseman.
Its really impossible to do anything other than spEKulate on the opening night roster at this point. And yes, Boogaard may be a scratch.
I will admit i don't know much about Valentenko, but I don't really know if i want to move forward with 2 rookies on D again this year (V and McD). I would prefer if we shipped boyle (cheap 4th line Center) out for Bieksa to vancouver.
Staal - Girardi
MDZ - Rosi
MCD - Bieksa
Looks at least acceptable to me. Bieksa does have a large cap hit, however.
Top Line: Prospal and Gabby played well together last season. White brings a two way presence at center to a formerly incomplete line.
2nd Line: Anisimov needs to make a name for himself at center. Frolov adds a second high level scoring talent to the top 6, MZA is the question mark but it seems like either top 6 minutes or time in Hartford.
Checking Line: You'd probably be able to call them the best checking line in the league. Great faceoff ability and shutdown potential. They all have the ability to score. Dubinsky needs to have a season where he solidifies himself as a top 6 talent.
4th Line: Good toughness and unlike some 4th lines of the past, ability to chip in points. Both Avery and Kennedy could find themselves getting bumped up the lineup.
I don't believe that Christensen has the consistency to make the team, or if he somehow makes the cut he will find a way into the pressbox by Halloween. He just doesn't show up enough. Torts said so himself.
I also still think that Todd White will be a factor, but after looking into the type of injury he had it might be by Christmas. I can see him on the top line if Prospal follows his traditional pattern.
Finally I fully expect to see Chris Drury traded either by the deadline or after the season. Either way this is his last season on Broadway.
Does it mean anything that neither Sather nor Torts called White to welcome him to the team? He got the call from the ass't coach....hardly the welcome one would expect for a top 6 forward....Or is that reading too much into this?
you are not reading to much into it. white is here for one reason, because he could get waived and his salary wont count against the cap. same could not be said for Brashear, who was over 35 when he signed his deal and even if he was not on the roster, his salary would have counted against the cap.
White's play did not suck this past year due to injuries alone. He hit the age barrier and hit it hard, we of all people should know what that means: the older Redden we have is not the Redden that performed in Ott and the Drury we have is much reduced from the Drury that led Buffalo.
The White that Atlanta tossed out is not the White that can put anywhere near 70 points.

please refrain from any further attempts at posting comments that making complete and total sense.
It had been pointed out that IF todd white goes to the AHL then he can be claimed when called up
this means he is either going to make the club from day 1 or stay in the AHL because I don't think NY wants to pick up half his salary for him to play for another team.
