MZA will be on the top 2 lines in Hartford, he isn't going to learn how to play North American hockey getting 6 minutes a night with Kennedy and Boogard.

I see a lot of people posting 2 million in overage bonuses... where does that come from aside from Prospal's 1 mil?

MZA = $850K
MDZ = $212K
McD = $425K

Any other ELC player that you foresee making the roster (e.g. Grachev, Valentenko - basically anyone realistic other than Stepan) likely has a bonus as well.

MZA is struggling with the hard work already and is not making the team to start the season. And anyone who has Boogaard not in the opening night lineup vs Orr and leafs is not paying attention.
Boogaard is not sitting vs teams with a Heavyweight get it thru your skulls

So ELC bonuses can be deferred to next years cap as well eh? Did not know that.

Hi DaGoon!
Tend to agree with you on both points. MZA will need time to adjust to the entirely different NA game and work on conditioning his frame. Boogaard is not gonna get paid 1,600 million to sit in the pressbox against tougher teams. I am almost sure Dolan has decisive input here as well (after the Philly debacle a few years back) - we need to get tougher.
So you like my lineup then?
I thought that the remote chance of trading Redden (+ Gilroy) for Souray would be better than a demotion of Redden to Hartford --- although i readily admit I doubt Edmonton would bite this bullet here.
I would love to see Grachev (and Stepan!!) make the team outta camp - provided they earn it. + McD on the backend - which many here seem to see as a given. That would mean a lot of older washups probably being let go (Eminger, Christ, Fedotenko, White, one of Exelby/Semenov...) or being demoted. Which would probably not make anyone around these boards cry come January anyway when the annual midseason slump sets in.
One of Exelby/Semenov will imo make the team a new nr 7 defender to provide that extra sandpaper on the backline...
This is just for fun btw --- but there is a lot to speculate about...

I see no reason why we shouldn't play Boogaard against divisional rivals, and substitute a player like Kennedy or Weise or Fedotenko against less aggressive teams. Solves both the issue of softness and Boogaard's ECHL level of hockey play, yes?

Yes, but this feature will not be available next year given the fact that the CBA is expiring.

If I'm not mistaken, the Rangers have only used the ability to exceed the cap by pushing bonuses to the following year once (I want to say that they did it for Shanny back in '08?) during the current CBA. I don't see them doing it again - ESPECIALLY given that next year you'd have to fit both '10 and '11 bonuses under the cap...

BUY OUT CHRIS DRURY.

1 MZA Stepan Gaborik
2a Dubinsky Prospal Callahan
2b Frolov Anisimov Grachev
4 Prust Kennedy Avery
Boogard, Christensen as the spares.

Staal Girardi
Del Zotto Rozsival
McDonagh Eminger
Semenov

Lundqvist
Biron

Redden to Hartford
Gilroy to Hartford

Then at the deadline: a mid-pick or mid-prospect for Vandermeer or Alberts to add some grit to the defense.

or a better package for Jovanovski (if he looks like he still has it this season), Hannan, Brewer, Phillips, or Bieksa.

ie: Christensen, Bourque, 2nd for Phillips or Hannan or Brewer.

- Grachev is not a RW.
- Drury will never waive his NMC.
- Chara has already begun negociating a new contract with the Bruins.
- Sather does not like to use the bonus cushion.
- Rangers would end up going over the summer cap because of Redden.

he played RW on the TCT line with Bourque and Stepan, but no he isn't. He is actually a natural center shifted to LW in Brampton.

At this stage of the game, I really wouldn't mind seeing something like:

Frolov - Stepan - Gaborik
Dubinsky - Anisimov - Grachev/Prospal
Callahan - Drury - Avery/Prospal
Prust - Boyle - Avery/Boogard
Staal - Girardi
MDZ - Rozy
McD - Gilroy/Semenov
Lundy
Biron

I know I've got some guys on the wrong wings. I only put them on the right side so I could put the either/or options more neatly. That lineup would mean waiving/sending down Christensen, MZA, White, Fedetenko, Byers, Kennedy, Weise, Dupont, Exelby, Eminger, Redden, Sauer and possibly Prospal depending on whether he fit into those either or/scenarios. I feel like it would be good to keep him around at his price in case a kid needs to be sent down/given a rest or we have any significant injuries.

- Chara has already begun negociating a new contract with the Bruins. "Begun negotiating" means squat. Ask Eklund...
- Sather does not like to use the bonus cushion. True...but not liking and not doing are different matters
- Rangers would end up going over the summer cap because of Redden. Really? I think not. Cap overage is currently at 10% = over 6 million which basically equals Reddens presumtive hit - and if the cap goes up around 5% - or so I believe - then some of these entry level contracts/rookies would be exempt from the summer cap - just as McD and MZA are this year

Can someone please confirm that they're actually looking at Grachev at RW?

I've read a couple of posts that have claimed this, but have seen no documented evidence. In fact, I was under the impression that they had him on LW of Stepan with Bourque on the RW at Traverse City. And according to Gross (and others) he was on the LW of Christensen today. http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/r...mmage_lineups/

As far as him being a "natural" center, he's played amost no center over the last couple of years. Yes, he was a center in Russia before he came over to Brampton, back when he was 17 and younger, but that's like a HS baseball player playing SS and P. The best player almost always plays those positions in HS simply because he's so much better than everyone else - it's only when they start playing with others of their own skill level that you find out who's truly a SS and who's really a 3B, SS or CF. Once Grachev moved over to the CHL and then the AHL, he played wing almost exclusively.

Personally, I've thought he would flourish if they moved him the right side basically sine they drafted him, especially given his particular set of tools. But I'm not aware of any real effort to switch him. So again - can anyone confirm that they're actually trying this experiment this camp?
