Actually Tikhonov said it himself ... but he didn't say he was "out", he just said that the federation assigned him to an "off the ice" coaching job, that he would be reposnsible for the team's "general strategy" (what the hell????). Well, these are just words, and it's obvious he's not on the coaching staff.

Anyway it's almost certain that Yurzinov will get the job, and it will be announced on Friday.

Russian officials finally managed to come up with a decision regarding 74 year old coach Viktor Tikhonov. Apparently president of Russian hockey federation Mr. Steblin needed a push from outside of his organization which he received from president of the Russian Olympic Committee Mr. Tyagachev. Tyagachev and Steblin had a meeting with Tikhonov.

The result of the meeting was the decision that team Russia will have a new head coach for the World Cup. In the next few days Mr. Steblin will announce the name of this person. When asked if he could announce the name of this person today Mr. Steblin said this was not possible yet.
I got this from rushockey.com

what you posted is from the same article

EDIT : my post was a bit confusing. When I said "Tikhonov said it himself" I meant that the decision was made by the federation BUT Tikhonov made it public

He won't.
That's the only not-stupid decision Steblin has made!

I'd like Larionov to take over the team. He strikes me as a real intelligent person, and someone who is undoubtly respected both in North America and back home, so the players would listen.

Larionov is highly respected in Russia, believe me. Maybe not well respected in the Russian Federation, but it will change soon. In the years to come Slava Fetisov, Larionov and Kasatonov will take over the RHF.

i don't speak about the federation.

Fetisov and Larionov will never be respected by the russian hockey fans (and that's correct IMO) ... but the problem is, nobody cares about the fans.

Why are Fetisov and Larionov not respected by the fans?

a za sto Fetisa i Larika ljubit?

Za to sto oni iza kardona polivali vsech grjaziu?!

Fetis vsegda vse lutsche vsech znaet, on znaet vsegda kto vinovat, i eto ochen prosto: vse krome nego.
Naprimer do Ol2002 Fetis oral, ja vsju otvetstvennost beru na sebja! Posle Ol2002 on krichal, nas sasudili, ja ne vinovat!

Larik predlogaet v serjoz innastranogo trenera v sbornuju! Eto zhe plevok v lizo vsem russkim Fanatam! Ja uveren sto Larik ne hotel pljuvat v lizo immeno Fanatam, a mozhet byt Federazij ili chert znaet komu ... no takimi vyhodkami on gadit vsem.

Fetis i Larik ljudi kotorye dumaet tolko o sebe. im vse po barabanu.

a nachet forumov, posmotrite pozhalusta ne nhl.ru , a pravda russkie forumy i gostevye knigi russkich klubov.

A ya dumau chto igrokov u nas khvataet.

Prosto Steblin delaet vse usloviya dlya zbornoy chtoby tam vsem bylo plokho, tak vot nikto i ne khochet staratsya. V NHL vse eti "bezvol'nye" igroki begaut bud' zdorov.
