Forwards(23 or younger) with equal value to MDZ?

I'm just curious who MDZ's foward equivelent is.

Bobby Ryan?
Kessel?

(For the record, those are jokes)

They'd have to add 1 or 2 first round picks.

I guess he was wrong in assuming that a sarcasm smiley was not necessary.

Would they? No, currently Crosby>>>>>>>MDZ

But...I look at it this way. Who are, and who historically have more often then not been the SUPERSTARS of the league? Guys who came in and made a noticable impact from day one.

Players that are above and beyond their age group from day one will most always be reguarded in a different light then those that required a few years to develop.

Case in point the Schenn vs M. Staal debate. Leafs fans will go to the grave demanding that Schenn is the cream of the crop, and "just you wait". Well, I'm still waiting, while I watch Marc develop into a true "Noris" caliber defensemen while competeing 82 games a year against the best in the game. Once again pretty much from day one

Now is MDZ fully developed? Absolutely not and I'm sure a few posters here are pesamistic that his defensive game will make him an absolute STUD. But if his NHL career mirrors his OHL career, IMO it's just a matter of one, maybe two more seasons before he is a more complete player and at that point watch out! He wasnt the most defensively sound player early in Oshawa but was noticably better by the time he wrapped it up in London. He a smart kid, who has shown he is listening and willing to learn, wanting to be the best he can be. I dont see him a a narrowminded rushing Dman like Coffey or Greene, and MDZ has said on record that he tries to emulate his game after Scott Neidermeyer which is awsome if you ask me.

So who IMO would his forwad equivalents be outside terms of offensive production as it's not his place to mirror exactly forward numbers? Basically guys with VERY high ceilings but havent been in the league very long.

I'm thinking players like:
On the high end:
Duschene

Realistically:
Evander Kane
Frolik
Zajac

Am I missing something here? Matthias over Del Zotto? DZ nearly matched Galiardi and Benn's point totals last year despite being a defenseman, too.

Evander Kane is being quite underrated in this thread. He played as an 18 year old on a piss poor team, even worse then the Rangers, and still did alright. I think he has 85 point potential, the real deal.

Point totals mean nothing. The question is who has similar value to Del Zotto. You call Florida up and ask for Matthias and see what their answer is.

Steven Stamkos, John Tavares, Matt Duchene, Drew Doughty, Josh Bailey, and Sam Gagner in a package with a few 1st round draft picks sounds about even.

So? His potential doesn't mean he's being underrated, it just means that people have high expectations for Del Zotto.

When Kane is being grouped with Frolik and Zajac (both good players) he is being underrated. He was a 4th overall pick for a reason, and although I think he should have spent another year in the WHL, he's in a class above those 2, and MDZ.

If Atlanta offered a swap I would do it in a heartbeat.
