Looks like Drewiske will get at least 10+ games in that #6 spot.

Yep. The way I see it, there are four spots open for competition now.

1) A replacement for Jones (Voynov, Fransson, Hickey, or Martinez)
2) A replacement for O'Donnell (A free agent signing or Campbell or Muzzin)
3) A temporary replacement for Greene (A free agent signing or Drewiske)
4) A 7th defenseman (Drewiske or Harrold)

Once Greene returns, his replacement can slide down to the 7th position.

I'd definitely give Drewiske a shot at regaining his old form from the beginning of last season.

I think Greene will be back sooner than we think.

Not good news but hopefully Greene's recovery is faster than expected.

If not, I hope DD, JJ, and RS are ready to play a lot to start the season.

My buddies at hockey-fights.com said Jeremy Yablonski was down to us and the Isles but signed a two way deal with the Isles for prob more money. So Lombardi is going after enforcers for the AHL.

ye, i dont see why we now need to sign an extra defenseman. We just play Drewiske in Greene's spot, then move him back to #7. That is what he is there for.

If we sign say Mara and Sutton, and call a rookie up to play #6, who drops out when Greene returns? Do we go the year without giving any of the d prospects a chance, or do we waste 1 by using them as the #7?

Just sign Sutton to play #4, Franssen/Hickey/Voinov in the #6, and Drewiske replaces Greene for the opening couple of weeks, since that is what the #7 is there for

Its Matt ****ing Greene anyway, so he probably did the surgery himself and will just tape his arm to his body then get on the ice

Todd Fedoruk, Brian McGrattan and Andrew Peters are still around. I figure Fedoruk is looking for an NHL contract. He's an enforcer who can play a regular shift. I wouldn't mind him as an option. McGrattan is a hell of a lot better than Peters, so if it came down to those two, I would prefer McGrattan.

We had two holes anyway.

DD-Scuds
JJ-??
Greene-??

Drewiske could have taken one of those spots. I'm hoping a kid will get a chance too. Now they both can get a chance. We still need to sign at least one UFA anyway or our defense will be pretty awful.

We beter hope that the injury bug is done with us after this, unless DL has got something more up his sleeve.
But how likely is that?

I bet it's a SLAP tear. I am going under the knife for it (again) in a couple months. 3 months is the typical timeframe but it can be longer if the flexibility doesn't come back quickly.

Unfortunately removed the rumor tag and replaced it with "Injury Report."

Ziggy, Fedoruk rarely fights anymore because of the plate in his face from Boogard. He is done.

McGrattan, Peters, Rechlicz, and Asham are the best options. Minor league guys like Kip Brennan are out there too.

This

And there is no reason to sign a goon either, unless Westgarth is out for the year.

Good thing is, he's not really a Kings fan so it's cool . .

We have been pretty lucky with Greene. He was always injury prone and we got pretty lucky he stayed healthy the last 2 years, until now of course.
