I know a lot of us ***** and complain, but honestly this really is a crappy summer.
We are coming off our first playoff round in 7-8 years and we end up losing out on almost every single UFA we pursued and even our own guys bailed. On top of that, we lost two of our tougher players to injuries and Lombardi hasn't traded for anyone, hasn't tendered one offer sheet knowing that pretty much that is his only route now for a top 6, only signed one UFA for LA, nothing for Manchester...Hell, the only two players he even re-signed were Parse and Richardson.
Just think how much better Doughty, Simmonds, Kopitar, Johnson, etc... should be next year, if that's any consolation. We still need someone solid on D though...

Nothing for Manchester? What does Manchester need? Jones will be coming in to replace Bernier. Tuebert replaces Bagnall & Kozun adds offense. . .
So Greene and Westgarth miss the first month of the season . . that's not going to put us in the basement. . I also believe Greene heals sooner.
The other stuff, sure. . I understand. Maybe not on the level you guys' seem to want to kill yourself over but I do understand.
Manchester could use a veteran scorer, a replacement enforcer for Westgarth.
We needed 2 dmen before Greene was hurt, maybe 1 if a kid from Manchester is ready, but now it looks like we def need 2....No one except Campbell or Teubert play like OD or Greene and I don't see those two making it...maybe Muzzin....
I am solidly on the doom and gloom train. Everything has been going wrong this off-season. Those of us that have been bemoaning the lack of depth and nothing happening in the way of improving this team are now already seeing what we feared most: injuries.
This season has had all the makings of a CBJ/STL 09-10 season. So it begins.
We are soft as a marshmallow right now. Sutton is a priority. Do it. As for an enforcer, I never thought I'd say this but don't waste the time and money on some ****box for a month. How long is Westgarth out for? I think this team could survive for a short amount of time if Sutton is acquired and Clifford makes the squad.
Either way, this really sucks. Team looked like **** when Greene went down last season. He is our top hitter on defense and the defense really looks like **** right now.
I just have a bad feeling that this is a 1998-99 season coming up right here. This will be confirmed if DL signs Steve Duchesne as our new PMD.

we have argueably the leagues bset defensive prospect pool, we have to give them shots at some point or another. Even with Greene being out to start the season, we still only need 1 defenseman. You need to give the prospects a chance to show that they are studs

This is a fabulous development. The Kovalchuk saga has worn me down, so I just find myself flippantly acknowledging and then dismissing these new hurdles.
**** this offseason. Really. This has just been awful. Greene is awesome and it'll really hurt not having him out there to start the year. If Sutton would agree to come to LA, I want him first and foremost and then just fill in the other holes with people we already have in the system.

C'mon man, Frolov is gone, that alone should have you happier than Don Cherry in Liberace's closet.

Honestly....this might turn out to be a good thing....you get to have a young guy get a chance, but if after a few weeks he isn't ready Greene comes back and plugs right back in. If he succeeds then you know what you got and have a bunch of good options.

Oh dude with losing him, Jones, OD, and Ivanans I was extremely happy. It's the lack of really any other moves that makes me mad, and now losing Greene, who is probably top 5 on the team in terms of players I like, just sucks. Greene is a warrior and I hope he can be ready in time for the season.
If Shane O'Brien wouldn't hate coming to LA, I'd love to have him. Man, was he a son of a ***** to play against. Such a pain in the ass. Perfect bottom pairing in my opinion.
One problem I see is that we don't really have any NHL ready guys that play Greene's game, which is going to hurt while he's out. I guess we'll be rolling with:
Doughty - Scuderi
Johnson - UFA/Trade
Drewiskie - Rookie
Harrold
Not very inspiring. We need Dean to make a move for a good 2nd pairing guy even more now.

I definitely trust Dancing Boy's medical opinion over Greene himself.
