I have to say, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the number 2.5 in the thread title... Great deal, I hope this is a sign of things to come.

How is Wallin worth twice as much... I don't know.

With him everything is free at IKEA for DW. All that free Lingoberry is worth it to him.

Great deal by the sharks and if he has a good or great year this season it will look even better. Surprised they signed him this early though.

I wonder if DW envisions this as our top-4 next year.
I doubt it - at that salary he's a perfect 5/6 guy who can play some PP minutes. Why pressurise the kid into a top 4 role - on that dosh there's no pressure at all, IMO. He now has a 3 year development window.

I believe DH's "next year" was referring to the year after this coming season (2011-12), hence the 1.25M cap hit.

Next season is when we really have a great shot of forming a solid team. With our useless duo gone (o please don't resign them) we can sign someone like Chara (well in my dreams) or Markov, and form a top 4 of something like:

Boyle Murray (or a true shutdown d, like Reghr)
Chara Vlassic
Demers (improved) Moore/Joslin (improved)

Now that's one defense that I can stand behind.

Yup.

I am really excited for 11-12 season (not at all for the upcoming one) because I feel like our defense is gonna be largely improved with the useless trio of Huskins, Wallin and Yawney gone, at least I hope.

no **** he'd get less than hammer. Hammer's a proven 2nd pair, demers has a long way to go before he's reliably taking 2nd pair minutes.

with that said, I'm glad dw was able to get demers extended at a good price. If he rocks next season it'll be a few years before he gets a raise- instead of demers being in a contract year and asking for tons of money.

Honestly, why is Yawney still here? Is there any hope of him being gone in the near future? He's brought nothing positive to this team.

Well his contract expires next season, so let's hope there is no extension.

Hallelujah. I don't see how on earth he could be offered an extension, but then again, I don't see how Wallin is a 2.5 million dollar defenseman. I'm keeping my fingers crossed Sharks management lets him walk.
