I would LOVE to see both Cote and Boosh gone. This would clear 1.4+ in Cap Space
Maybe even one of Walker or O'Donnel. Free up 1.7 or 1.3 Cap Space respectively.

Total 3.1 or 2.7 cap space...... would be nice.

What do you guys think?

This could create a chance for our farm system players to get a crack - or Homer to screw something more up. ha!

Walker and Cote seem not unlikely. There are some other guys I can think of, unfortunately they just signed their deals.

I'd only waive Boosh if we sign another goalie. Ideally, I'd dump Shelley, Cote, Walker, and Boosh if we get another goalie. That would clear 4.275M to sign one goalie, and still have 13F, 7D, and 1G under contract.

Boosh and Cote. I love 'em both but they are the definition of dead weight. Shelley is not going anywhere, neither is O'Donnell or Leighton. They didn't sign those guys just waive them. If it gets a few months into the season and they are not working out, ok maybe they get waived, but they are not going anywhere unless that happens.

Backlund says hi.

Shelley is the definition of dead weight, so is Boosh and so is Walker.

Meszaros or Carle could be assets in a meaningful trade (ie: a goalie). Not to say they are dead weight, they are just players I'd be willing to part with for the right return.

edit: ****.... 1000th post wasted on shelley. As if it wasn't enough that he wasted this teams whole off-season.

Boosh is only dead weight if we have someone to replace him. We don't.

Shelley and Walker are dead weight as is.

Do people really think they'll dump Shelley after just signing him or are these more wishful thoughts?

He did, for $1.3M.

Now, should we sign Niemi? Homer has already said not interested. Sad.

Right now, my overriding thought is, "Why bother?" I have no faith that Holmgren would do anything worthwhile with cap space.

That being vomited, Cote has zero role on the team with Shelley here. There is absolutely no way that Holmgren can justify a spare goon. It`s bad enough wasting money and roster space on one.

At least there's a chance Backlund takes the 1 spot and rolls with it. Boosh would just be a band-aid on the proverbial "boo boo" that is the Flyers goaltending situation.

Sorry to say, but I trust Boosh more so than Backlund.

Don't be sorry sir, I agree. I trust a guy who got us to the playoffs more than a kid who has played ~2 NHL periods.

I trust him in a pinch... but not for a long term solution. Backlund has way more potential to be the answer than Boosh.

My point is we all know what to expect from Boosh. We don't know what Backlund is capable of but the limited time we did see him, we saw a lot of composure. He looks very sound in net, I expect to see some more of him this season.

That's because Boosh is a backup. Thus why he's signed as a backup.

This and this. I don't think you'll find a soul on these boards ready to give the reins of the team to Boosh. We all know his role. That said, more confidence in him this NEXT YEAR than Backlund

I actually really like Backlund. Yeah, he's by no means a safe bet though.

Right. You are just emanating my point. If something happens to Leighton such as, he goes back to being Michael Leighton, yeah we can put Boosh in net, but it wont be a permanent solution by any means, it will only perpetuate the fact that we haven't had a true starter since Hextall.

Maybe Backlund can be our starter, who knows? I think there's some potential there, that's all I'm saying.
